# About me
So this is my little corner of the world. I'm here primarily as a woodcarver/worker, but my skills are no where near where I want them. What you see in my gallery is simply the journey I'm on to improve my ability while having fun.# Comments

Hi Steve,
I just watched a good portion of your Katana YouTube tutorials and I'm just amazed. Β You are a very talented guy! Β
You mention in the beginning of the first video that you used to make them out of one piece of wood. Β Are the videos from those builds still available anywhere? Β I've been playing around making one for my son, and would love to see how you did it as one full piece. Β I will try the more complicated build on my own at some point, but I don't want to build the boy something too complicated Β - as it's likely to get abused - first time around.Β
Well, that's it. Β Just thought I'd ask. Β Thanks for the great tutorials!
- Dave

I would like to thank you for the tutorials you made on how to make a wooden katana. I recently made one (i will eventually post it on my profile if I can find a decent camera) and you helped me a lot Β for the pieces and techniques required. I still need a lot of improvement, but I couldn't have started without some sort of reference . Great work by the way

I'll ask you since Steve doesn't seem to be active online anymore and you made one. When you made yours, how heavy did it end up being? Like, would it break if you hit someone with it? I need to know before I make it for a convention I'm going to, otherwise it probably won't pass security. Thank you for any help you can give me!

xadrow In reply to nicole-hime [2014-06-23 21:43:12 +0000 UTC]
to be fair it inst that heavy at all (haven't weighed it, so I can't tell exact weight). Sure you could hurt someone with it if you decided to hit them or poke their eye out, but the thing would probably brake over time just by shear swinging forces (I use it sometimes as a training sword for bokken related katas, and it feels like eventually the blade will snap without any warning). I all depends on the wood you use quite frankly, but it would definitely not be confiscated at a convention (as long as you don't do anything irresponsible with it ^^ ). Good luck with your build and have fun

Ok thanks!
And I guess you haven't been to Anime Boston then >.> They do a prop check when you enter and can take your prop if it is considered dangerous :U

Where did you learn your trade? I want to learn to work leather, metal, and wood. I'm hoping whatever college I land in will have classes, but if you know a better/less expensive way to learn, I'm all ears.

yo ive followed your tutorials for a long time, and while ive never had the money to try it myself, i just wanted to say the skill with which you perform and the modesty with which you perform it are both phenominal.

first of all I'd like to tell you u're nasty guy !! noo, u're juste awesome !
congratulation and thank u for the katana tutorial.
I watched really closely ur videos on u tube, and thank u it helps a lot in imaginating how it has to finally look like.
But what interests me the most is how u did the shealth. Coz I didn't find a video about how to do it. Maybe I just didn't find it but i'd like u to tell me if there is a tutorial about it
mhhh I mean the shealth and the handle. I know how to do the loops and nodes but the top wooden part until the bottom part of the handle,... i don't know ... same for the bottom piece of the shealth
Please teach me XD

Well, the good news is that I've started carving again, so more videos should be on the way. The sheath is the last step, but hopefully I'll get there soon! I'd like to explain the steps in writing, but I am afraid that it wouldn't be very clear.
