Yup.

Gold had already beaten the League. He had completed the Pokedex for both Professor Elm and Professor Oak, won against all sixteen Gym Leaders, challenged Red and been victorious.
So it was surprising to say the least when he received a call from Professor Elm.

Gold,

I've need of your assistance with something. It seems the Unown have more secrets that need to be documented, and I would appreciate it if you went to the Ruins of Alph to study this new development. I would come as well, but I'm afraid I can't. Busy, you know. My apologies.

Professor Elm

Initially confused, Gold finally decided that he should probably do as the Professor had asked. Despite all this, he couldn't help the sense of foreboding that over took him outside the entrance.

Once inside the Ruins, Gold decided that he would stop by the scientist's home and see if there really was a discovery. As much as Gold liked Professor Elm, he decided something was off about this whole scenario. This note from the Proffessor seemed a bit...off. He didn't know why or how. So it was five minutes later, he found himself knocking on the door of the small labratory.

"Hello?"

Silence.

Uneasy, Gold rapped a knuckle on the door again. No answer. Then, a scratching at the door, and a harsh whisper from within.

"Who's there!?"

"S-Sir? It's me, Gold."

"Gold?"

The door swung open, revealing one of the scientists.

"Yeah, it's me. You, uh...you wanted to see me, right?"

"Don't...the ruins, the ruins, they are watching you, they..."

Gold just stared wide-eyed at the man cowering on the floor, hands shakily grasping the front of his jacket.

"What...what are you talking about? There's noth-"

"The

"Please...get away, get away from me!" The man screamed, and ran from the room.

"Wh-hey, wait!"

But the scientist paid no heed, dashing from the small room if his very life depended on it.

Against any better judgement he had remaining, Gold began the descent down the ladder that led into the Ruins of Alph.

The secret lies within the runes.







Darkness fell.

HURRY has fainted!

When the light returned once more, he was at first confused by the scene before him. He was some sort of chamber, about five by five feet long, a dull gray color painting the surrounding floor, walls, and ceiling. He then noticed that, although he was trapped, if he stood high enough, he could just make out a dozen or so gravestones.

"Hurry? What is this place-"

To his horror, the little Fire Mouse didn't move. It wasn't breathing either.

"H-Hurry? Wh-What's wrong? Wake up!" He screamed.

But Hurry didn't stir. Terrified, Gold reached for his bag, and he let out a yell of terror. Six Unown nearly collided with him, stopping to hover in mid-air in front of his face. Gold squinted in confusion.

"He...died? What...?" Do they mean...are they talking about Hurry? Or...

It was then he noticed a sort of dull itch in his left arm, more of an nuisance than anything. It slowly grew to a dull ache, then a sharp throb of pain. Annoyed, he reached to touch the offending arm and then-

CRACK.

Gold let out a howl of agony and slumped against the wall, sobbing in unimaginable pain. His arms were gone, torn off at the shoulder, blood gushing from the ragged flesh that no longer resembled anything remotely close to a pair of arms. It was all he could do not to vomit. At this point, Gold began a rapid descension into shock, hyperventilating as the blinding pain seared from the bloody stumps. If he hadn't been in shock, he would have noticed the floor sinking beneath him, swallowing him as if it were quicksand. Unable to fight the darkness quickly overwhelming him, Gold finally blacked out, and knew no more.



When Gold woke from the stupor he had previously been in, he nearly fainted again from the terrific stab of agony running through his nerves, and this time, his shredded legs, torn away at the knee, blood staining the fabric of his shorts and jacket, now a pale gray. He finally did manage to choke out a sob, holding back the desperate howl threatening to tear from his throat. The pain stayed with him for what felt like hours, slowly ebbing into a dim reminder of his current state. Slowly, still in a great deal of pain, the young trainer surveyed his current location. The walls and floor resembled that of the Sprout Tower. But this couldn't be the Sprout Tower, it was not only deserted, but the walls, celing, and floor were a horrifyingly blood-red. He tried to step forward, and then realized he was floating in midair. He was gliding.

Oh, that's cool.

Idea:
Professor Oak went on a research trip to Cinnabar Island. He called Gary from a boat trip along the shore, when suddenly the call was distorted and messed up. At the end of the call, the only thing heard was the Pokedex repeating, "Missing Number. Missing Number. Missing Number." Professor Oak has disappeared.

The story starts with Gary calling various trainers he knew: Ash, Misty, Brock, Dawn, Tracey, etc. He tells them to come to Pallet Town for a meeting. He shows them the recorded call, and asks them to help him find out what happened. That's what the story centers around - everyone trying to figure out what happened.
