Hey! Unfortunately we had no funding to continue with the project as it was. Currently we are trying to revive it in another form, as a storytelling, narrative-driven mobile/tablet game. I started making initial artwork drafts just this week. You can follow me on Twitter - twitter.com/zhille and Facebook www.facebook.com/zhillustrator for updates, I am not active on dA anymore. We will probably start something Aeon7 related soon, a page, a website...
We will offer the option to people to fund us via my Patreon - www.patreon.com/zhillustrator?… so I can make more artwork for A7, and rebranding the project is imminent.
We are hopeful about it!
Greetings from(currently) Croatia!

your work is great. I am amazed and inspired to get a little more experimental with my own work (don't get me wrong, I don't want to steal your style but I want to stand out a little more and add a more clean and exciting feel to my work). I'll keep an eye on your Tumblr. I sent you my tumblr address for you to follow it in case you haven't seen the link yet

Aw, thanks! There's no nuclear physucs there, just have fun and try out different tools, traditional, digital, mixed media. I worked with really cheap tools, but had a range of them to have fun with.

Just found you today, your concept work is so freaking good! I've been struggling with learning the basics, but when I see work this fresh and attractive, it really drives me to work hard.

Wow, thanks! I'm rather new to the whole thing when you compare me to most current concept artists and I tend to not call myself one. I've started late(29 now), and have been digitally painting for 4 years now and I still have a lot to learn, I think. So don't get discouraged. See ya in a few years when you're better than me today.

Ha, I'm sorta in the last boat as you then. I also got a late start, started drawing about 4 years, got serious about it about a couple years ago, and I just turned 30. I've a long way to go, but I'm having a blast.

hey man, just wanted to tell you I actually agree completely with your comment. My image did not deserve a DD and was very shocked when i saw that it got one. I was actually debating whether to upload that after i did it because I saw how similar some of the form language and designs were to fengs stuff. watching his tutorials like crazy as a new comer to concept art, some of his form languages make there way in. I would like to think that after another couple years it wont be an issue.
been watching you for awhile, and love your stuff, keep up the good work

Oh damn. You know, for starters – I must apologize for being rude. I was harsh, I'm not to say who deserves what. I'm sorry for being a jerk, it was all possible to say in a more supporting manner and I usually say it like that or not at all. I honestly thought it needs more work and refinement, and because I am really seeing a ton of people making a mistake of "Feng-zhu-ing" too much, and DD's given out to work under the "quality bar" that's in my head, I went over the line of politeness.
As for the concrete fixes - I'd work more on the snow part, and those structures in the mountains behind, to imply more details. Also thing all around seem really blurry, maybe from "up-resing", try applying the Smart Sharpen to everything.
You know, I watched all Design Cinema videos too, they are something awesome for someone just starting, like I did, really not so long ago. It's no wonder people are looking up to him, he's a good teacher and gives great advice. Just don't let yourself be too obvious, never let people teach you what to paint, instead, let them only teach you how. Try to pursue your own visual style with all the tips and tricks you learn from Feng. I must admit I stopped watching Design Cinema recently, because he's just too good and gives me a huge inferiority complex. But I learned a lot, and that helped me, and still is, even though my visual style is something different.
Nowadays one can go around and just guess which artist others looked upon because they really, really paint almost the same, use the same motives. There's one guy here on dA who's like Feng 2.0 and nevermind his paintings are waaay advanced, something I could never ever do and they look great, I kinda dislike it because it's Feng's visual style, not his. If I was Feng, I'd sue his ass. xD
As for me, I've been escaping to more abstract grounds. I feel at home there, like the last thing I submitted. There's too much expectations for concept artists, they want you to know everything and be good at everything, work fast as hell and not be artistic much, be generic, and that kind of drives me away from that field. Also a ton of people making crap concept art that is not either 2d nor 3D nor photo-mashup, but something crap between that, that all looks the same.
Thank you for watching me, and not getting pissed off like some people in the comments of your DD.
Sorry for a lengthy reply! xD

no worries! yeah I doubt Feng zhu would mind people painting like him, I think he probably takes it as a compliment to how awesome he is. Out of curiosity which guy, I might have seen him? I for sure agree concept art is very stressful, I just got my first job in it, working at epic games. its loads of fun too though, but they do always want you to produce and fast too. I know my painting style especially with environments is very close to fengs, and maybe one day I can evolve my own, but for people like me who didn't know about concept art until late into college, its a great kick start to a career. And feng isn't the only one ive studied, all those gnomen dvds are gold too. But I do hope one day I can find my own style.
Whats actually funny now that Feng has so many people using his style is, that if you look back to when he started, his marker sketches are identical in style to doug chang. so at one point even he did the same thing as all of us wanna be fengs haha. But I guess game companies dont really look at it as art, and styles, they just want designs fast. and it all really stems back to craig mullins for digital, and syd mead for traditional.
Yeah I love your abstract stuff,. its pretty awesome, ive been wanting to try abstract painting for awhile now, it looks like a lot of fun. do you use a lot of custom shapes? some of your stuff has a kinda sparth vibe to it.
Thanks for the real crit on the painting, thats a little more helpful info
sorry some of those commenters took it pretty seriously haha. But to be fair to them a lot of the reason I still use deviant art is to get a few nice comments a day, even if they are from people who don't know what they are talking about, it still gives you a little motivation.
Sorry for the lengthy response to you lengthy response, but it was an interesting subject to me

Oh yeah, gnomon has such excellent stuff. I learned all my perspective, OK, most of it from Scott Robertson's basics DVDs, as I had some knowledge back from high school, then I found a bunch of books and videos, now my fellow concept artist in the company sees my grids and he's like YOU'RE OVERPERSPECTIVING DUDE hahah. What's good with Gnomon is that there are so many instructors, you will definitely find a style that matches you, or something you'd like. Traditional, digital, 2D, 3D, zBrush, basics, lighting, animation, mixed, all of it.
I also found Daarken has some nice tips, really down to earth, I kind of appreciate that way of teaching.
You know, those abstract things are a good counter to what I work for a living on. So it gets me engaged on something only I have control over. My company work has a lot of art direction. So I get it all out with the abstracts, especially the traditional ones, it's a nice feeling. Lately I've been doing it more digital, I guess I'm building my visual library and training digital skills while having fun and doing what I want. Maybe one day I get to earn something on those things.
Yeah, I like to use lasso, paths, shapes and custom shapes, I'm kind of hard-surface oriented. I tend to make my own shapes, patterns, brushes, and use them combined, with masking, sharp edges etc. I guess it has a Sparth-ish vibe, he tends to be more simplistic and sharp, I really appreciate that. No bells and whistles nor over-the-top concepting.
Hahah, my insensitiveness actually brought up a nice little conversation. Be well!

Thank you.
