Why, WHY ON GODS EARTH! *Slams at the table* IT WAS REPLACED WITH THIS. *Pointing at website with Teen titans go.*Β
Seriously. One of the best series. One of the best couples and it end like that without next season. They better make it or SOMETHING BETTER or I'm just gonna send them to hell myself.
Beautiful artwork that reminds about sweet times with this show, happy and sad times with this couple and my despair about end of this show. Let's just hope that someone in DC will make a comic continuation of this.Β

I just binge-watched the series. The slow burn love story was a great part of an otherwise great show. DC needs to replace Snyder with Timm.

Excellent work! I love all the details you've added to their clothing/armor. Razer's, in particular, looks like solid, practical, high-tech battle armor, with all the separate "plates" and segments. I particularly like how both the rings at his neck and the bodysuit underneath show seams, as though the suit has to be assembled. The pattern of hexagons in the undersuit's material makes me think of the Nanosuits from the Crysis videogames. Overall, it avoids looking like colorful bits of rubber over spandex, which is all to often how superhero attire appears.
Your version of Aya is, of course, beautiful. I like the additional lights you've added, making her armor look more high-tech and less like simple white plastic. The eyes are almost eerily beautiful, with pupils that somehow manage to "glow" while still showing depth.
You have done a wonderful job with lighting and reflections, from the crimson glow backlighting Razer, to the purple shading, to the green glow and highlights coming from Aya. Keep up the fantastic work!

I suppose that things like this will ALWAYS remain as the most disappointing aspect of the animation industry. The fact that great animated series, such as this one so valiantly demonstrated here, while having such captivating characters and themes interwoven into their exciting plots and stories, can have the proverbial carpet yanked out from under them in such an unforgiving fashion as in what has taken place here, and to several others out there that have shared a similar fate as well. And all things considered, I guess it all just stands to serve as a cold reminder that, at the end of the day, the animation industry as a whole in and of itself is just yet another business. And in most cases, merely just an extension of advertising and merchandising.
But even though it was quite disheartening to see this intriguing new series suffer such an unfair fate, especially without giving the series a proper chance to really shine, it still does the heart most good indeed to know that, even though the regular series itself has reached a very abrupt end, the great characters and the enthralling stories encompassing them will always continue to live on, in all of their fantastic glory that initially enchanted us, in the hearts and minds of the fans with the will and drive to keep their memories alive in the best ways possible for the characters that mean so much to them. It's so very warming to know that with such epically awesome and artistically gifted fans out there, such as yourself, the remembrance of these great characters will most certainly not be in vain.
And as always, what a wonderfully FABULOUS justice you have done to BOTH of these fantastic, cybernetic warriors upon your latest, legendary canvas, my friend! The soft, commingling auras of red and green culminating between this intergalactic couple is such a wondrous treat for the eyes indeed, and not to mention, your fantastically masterful work on the structural design and facial features of these two characters as well. Even with the harsh look in Razer's eye, it's still very easy to see, from your masterful composition here, that he indeed very much cares for the green-hued digital beauty clinging so closely to him. And if course, knowing that my good buddy Fern is on the case, it brings a very BRIGHT smile to my face to know that the heartwarming relationship between these two will only continue to grow stronger, even if the animated universe from which they originated from does not. I guess THIS is really the TRUE power of fanart!
With artistic geniuses like you at the helm, these wonderful characters and their magnificent animated series will not soon be forgotten, and I thank you so very much for sharing this fantastically memorable new painting masterpiece with us all, my friend!

"merely just an extension of advertising and merchandising"
no, in fact it's quite the reverse.
They are the origin, the source of merchandising.
Without them, you can't build interesting characterization to sell merchandising.
But the money which allows to produce the animation comes FROM the merchandising (so in a way, every animation is a bet)
-
to change that, we would need to pay the true price of the animation itself front. In japan, there were "ova" (original video animation) being published ONLY on VHS or LD/DVD, never broadcasted. But it's expensive, it was more common in the 90s than now.
-
"itself is just yet another business"
it is a business, and it shouldn't be a fault to be a business. To live from creation, from great animation to bring joy to children, or interesting stories to grown-ups should be a good business, a fine job.
but the way it works now is broken. It needs to be paid by toys. It's not easy to know if Disney or Hasbro are toys companies making cartoons to sell toys, or animation companies selling toys to be able to produce animation.
If you ask Disney, everything is done to be able to make animation forever. Two failure in a row and the very studio can be shut down (or productions canceled. and yes, it happened to Disney).

Haha While I appreciate your reply to me, I'm getting the notion that you didn't quite understand the excerpts from my comment that you chose to reply to.
By expressing the animation industry as an "extension" of advertising and marketing means that they work in conjunction with one another; the animation series is allowed to continue and receive funding long as merchandising is kept up to par of the satisfaction of the corporate heads. And in many instances, such as the Green Lantern series, for example, that expression rings true.
That expression, however, is not meant to state that either factor preludes the other, and my previous comment doesn't make that assumption in any context.
But also, I am completely aware that this scenario not a 100% absolute case for every instance out there, and that is why my comment included the phrase: "in MOST cases". It probably would have been better if you had left that particular phrase intact in your excerpt, as it most likely would have deterred some of the confusion.
Also, my commentary on the animation industry being simply a business was merely a statement of a fact, and the disappointing realities that follow in the wake of that fact; it was not saying that the industry was following immoral or unethical practices. It would have been different if my comment said something along the lines of: "the animation industry as a whole in and of itself is just yet another business, and that's wrong/bad/evil/etc.". I think you may have been reading between the lines just a little too much there! Haha
