Description
In this unique take by on the original musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Poppa, the mentor figure of young Rusty, pits himself and Dustin in Heat 3 against the powerful electric engines Turnov & Bobo with their partners, Wrench and Ashley. Exhausted from outracing his more advanced rivals while pulling the bulky Dustin (plus being mortally wounded by foul play from them), Poppa collapses in exhaustion despite winning a spot in the final. In his dying breath, he urges our little hero to take his spot in the final before his water glass breaks and his fire drops for the final time. Poppa is gone.

Later, after being tortured by the likes of C.B. & Greaseball's posse', the little engine is at his last shreds of sanity and calls out to the heavens above - to the mythical Starlight Express whom his father figure preached of so fervently. The mighty, mystical train of stars hears his prayer, his desperation, and appears in the sky above the railyard, sending Poppa's ghost to comfort him. Seeing Poppa once again brings a sense of comfort to Rusty, and once Poppa tells Rusty that he's always had the power to surpass all others in him, his confidence is restored for good. Poppa & Starlight Express leave our little hero to clear his path to victory that night, as he excitedly rushes off to find Dustin for the final race. Poppa may be gone, but Rusty knows that he's always watching him in the stars alongside the glory that is the Starlight Express.
