This is a fan art of Lion-O from Thundercats. aka, the 80s version.

Now Lion-O or the original Thundercats was a series I haven't got into or been aware of before. Granted, my first introduction to the franchise was from the 2011 series. Ever since then, I kept noticing numerous references to the original franchises like Robot Chicken, Family Guy, etc.

I did manage to watch...well, the first episode of it when it air on Boomerang, but that was pretty much it.

It wasn't until I saw Robthewonderful review on the original series that I decided to check it out.

I've watch the entire seasons and that's when I fell in love with the franchise.

Now I do want to clarify that there are some problems, especially in it's first season. Like the PSA isn't handle well, interesting ideas aren't explore much like with Mumm Rana, some cheap animation, etc.
It's not perfect.

HOWEVER, the aesthetic, the concept, the characters ( Well, some of them ), the music, the animation in it later season, the world building, all of it were interesting. And had a huge impact to me.

Now moving on with Lion-O, I found this character to be interesting, as he's essentially a 12 year old kid trapped within an adult body. And throughout the series, he learn, accept responsibility, and become a great leader to the Thundercats.

That is something you don't see whole often in 80s cartoons. Character depth. Or at least, a progression of a character.

Larry Kenny did a fantastic job voicing him. He really nail his character.

So yeah, Lion-O is a great character. And the franchise behind it really impacted me. Especially from it art style.

Rankin Bass has been an inspiration to me, particularly around their 80s stuff.
