Technically your work is always excellent - the textures, the detail, the painterly lost and found edges.
But what helps make your work stand up from the rest of the realists is the life and vitality that shows through all of your portraits.

Very nice. I love all the wrinkles in his face, so much detail you've put into it without totally messing it up. And then his sweater too, really sticks out to me. It looks just like fabric. I love it. The contrast of the whiteishness of his face to the darker background sticks out to me too, whether you intended it like that or not...

There are artist and there are illustrators but every now and then you come across the picasso's and the leonardos of our our century. Congrats to you on a gift that I hope brings more to you world than just wonderous works of (the word art doesn't even begin to describe your work) the gifts from GOD to you. In shock and AWE!!

Oh dear, this must've taken you such a long time.. But it's well worth it! The sweater in this drawing is just so perfectly drawn. I can see every little detail in it. I'm sure I couldn't have done that had this been a photograph. So it's amazing. Just amazing. And a bit creepy, you having so much skill. But I guess you are tired of hearing people say that.

Incredible picture, as always. There is one thing about your art that bothers me: I've noticed that even though your skills as a pencil renderer are unmatched here at deviantart you aren't getting that many picks and comments as you'd deserve. After pondering over this for some time I've come up with a theory.
You're technical skills are, of course, at the stage which most of us will never reach, but you seem to lack some of the artistic mentality that gives a picture "life". This particular piece is a good example of that. The fact that it's made purely by skill and not by heart may be the reason why it doesn't the recognition it deserves from the other deviants (not counting the Daily Deviation pick). Almost 70 favs and over a hundred comments is great, but I think you deserve more.
If you don't care about favs and lots of comments, then fine. I'm not here to tell you what to do or to blame you. I'm writing this because I admire you immensely and I think it's a great sin that you don't have more than 100 favs on each and everyone of your pictures. Then again, if you feel comfortable with your style and you don't want to change it then go ahead, I won't bother you with this again. I just wanted to get it off my chest.
Do keep up the good work, you never cease to amaze me (though I believe you could do even better).

The hair, the fabric, the eyes, the shading! This would be a fantastic photo, but when I saw it was a pencil drawing... jeeze. Not only do you have incredible talent, but also alot of patience and determination. I hope that I may one day posess at least one of those traits.
Btw, I'm sorry, but is Charles Breed a celebrity of some sort? Who is he? He looks like one of those guys who you can sit down with and listen to his lfe story while drinking a glass of whiskey. Or at least that's how I see his personality.
