The world is dying.

City after city falls to the twin scourges of disease and madness, made worse by human mistrust and fear, until the dead outnumber the living.

Sarobah, sister to the King, is now queen of a dead land. Her kingdom, Kynthos, is stricken by this deadly pandemic that ravages young and old indiscriminately. In the last few days, it has taken her brother and ailing mother, along with a thousand other citizens.

Now, at the eleventh hour, Kai, former ally and estranged lover of the Queen, returns to her side.

Seven months at sea and a year in the savage wildlands of the north could not drive her from his thoughts. He believes such dire circumstances should allow them to put aside old grudges, and ally themselves once more for the good of those who still draw breath.

Little does he realise that the plague ravaging Kynthos is Sarobah herself.
