Description There's a bit of story to this piece. As you can see from the signature, it's quite old. Back in good ol' 2009 i heard about the painting technique in which you paint your picture from a black base up. I tried it out, and i was never quite satisfied with the picture, so it ended up in the vault. I had it on a black background, on which the outlines of the figure are invisible and caused it to blend into the background and as a result everything looked flat.

Well today, i pulled this little piece out of the depths of my digital painting attempts and looked at it, removed the black background, so the black silhouette base on which it was painted had an actual contrast to the background and I foud it wasn't as bad as I thought. On closer inspection i even started to really like it. The details and everything just came out much better than on my other pictures, which are normally painted on a colored base and then shaded and highlighted.
All I needed to change is redo the flame on the torch, as that looked complerely wrong, and add a little bit of background, just to soften it up a little. And here it is, after 4 years.

As for the painting technique used, I will definitely try around more withit and refine it a little. Smaller details, harder brushes and I think I'm good to go. Painting like this is a lot of fun too, it's like sculpting the picture, rather than making a flat painting.

Also thanks to for helping me out with figuring out how to get the flames right
