Description I watched my best friend die.

It wasn't in a hospital and it wasn't an accident on some road somewhere. There's a saying, and I guess it's also… funny… how you never know what's going on behind closed doors.

I guess you're probably thinking of suicide - overdose, hanging by the rope, or (god forbid) the knife, but... it's not that.

Because it's one thing to die and it's another to die. I believe you can exist without properly living.

What is a life? We are born into this world with no say on the matter, and yet the majority of us take for granted that tomorrow we will wake up to another morning, another routine, another day in this same old life.

Do we?

Are we happy in this life? Inside, where it counts, are we happy?

My best friend came from nowhere. One minute I had no one, and the next… I guess it's a sort of blessing that my best friend arrived when I needed comfort the most.

We began to go out and have wild trips galumphing up the roads. We made war with bits of paper and paint, but we both came out triumphant at the end, two winners in a life that no one wins.

In the end, my best friend died alone and I... I made it happen.

I made my best friend die.

To be honest, this reminds me of when you kill off a character when you are writing... I have no idea why...

Hi there. I love this piece. Do you mind if I upload it on my blog (www.faridsalim.com ). I'll definitely credit you as you wish. Great work. Keep it up.

Do you have an example of a post where you credit a person?

I've never put anyone else's work on my blog. This would actually be the first time. But something like, 'Written by (link to author's profile/page/etc)'.

If you could have "Inside, written by 3wyl", and have "Inside" be a link to this piece here, and "3wyl" be a link to my profile, then I would grant permission for that.

Consider it done. I would change this "I made my best friend die" to this "I watched my friend die" as long as its fine by you.

I have been "that" friend; the departed and the murderer.

Can we all say that we've been on both sides of the fence?

Do we really do our best for the people we love, or only what will favor us... make us seem like good people.

I know my motives, but I do not know yours.

Great piece of writing... very inspirational and thought-provoking.

3wyl In reply to analillithbar [2015-04-15 12:55:22 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...I would like to think that most people have been on both sides, but then some people haven't, and they've been affected just as much by not experiencing the other side.

It is definitely a give and take thing for sure.

Thank you very much.

Very true. And not everyone reacts the same to "changes" in relationships.

Everything that means anything is a give and take... compromise and exchange.

Thank you for sharing.

Yes, indeed. Some people can work with change in relationships, and others can't.

It is a compromise and an exchange, I agree!

Thank you for commenting.

"What is death?" I mean really do we know what it truly is? For all we know there could be another stage after this thing we call "life."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Dragonfear14 [2015-03-11 17:14:22 +0000 UTC]

There is the possibility of there being another stage after 'life', but as there is no concrete fact of it, it is difficult to place faith, trust, etc. in that.

  10 Years

Days pass
Time flies
You don't realize
Today you waste

This dying youth of beauty & pleasure evaporates
Lives are connected to lasting obsessions that become possessions of waste

& I try to remember this everyday - & do better than it, make a difference to someone, make myself happy as well.

Yes, I do see where you are coming from there! Sometimes, the things that we do...there is no going back from it, and things may never be the same again afterwards. It's quite humbling for a friend to forgive you after such an act.
