The young boy… No that wasn't right; the preteen he was watching stumbled, tripping over a lip in the side walk in his nervous hurry to cross the road. It made youthful medical student laugh a bit. He'd always had a mean streak to him, edged with a bit of caring but as was his way. His pompous parents were quite pleased with themselves when they found out he wished to go to university for medicine, claiming to want to be a doctor. Mostly, Worth just wanted to have the power over life and death and the shades of grey which humanity occupied.

The Australian would have kept on walking but halted when the dark haired kid refused to stand, his silly demented maternal instincts kicking it. Mont would have laughed but Luce didn't care. He couldn't just let the teen sit there in his school uniform in a puddle of mud.

"Hey… Get up, kid. You can't just lie in the middle of the goddamn road and get hit by a car or some shit."

Dark brown eyes rose to meet crisp cyan. The blond noted the shimmer of tears, a slender dark brow arched elegantly in question. "So what do you say, up and at 'em."

A warm slender hand was proffered, and accepted as the Aussie all but pulled him to his feet.

"It's not good to talk to strangers."

His eyes widened a bit. At the lack of speech, Worth was about to consider the damn brat a mute.

"Good thing I ain't a stranger and more like a doctor…"

So he lied. Eh. It was a habit that would never die. Not since his youth with Lamont and lying to his parents about just what the Touchey family was into. 'Delivery business' his ass.

"I.. I'm late from my psychiatrist. Mother will be upset…"

There was a gentle lilt in that voice. British, eh? Something like that. It was familiar like his own accent, though, he didn't notice it. Sounds like home a bit. Worth had forgotten he had been holding the teen's hand and watched this young man tint pink.

"Psychiatrist? Che. They're full of shit. Ain't nothing wrong with your head, kid… You do have a name right? I can't just keep calling you pet names and shit, puppy."

Worth was rewarded with a soft bristling, his hand released and a huff. Damn, it was kind of fuckin' adorable of the kid.

"Conrad. My name is Conrad."

"Worth. Doctor Worth. Anyway, Connie, you should get off home. Take care of your knee too. Looks like you sprained it."

He glanced down at his leg, adjusting his glasses and looking back up at the lanky doctor. "I am not a girl. My name is Conrad… And I will, sir…"

Again, he raised a brow, more at the sudden boldness of the boy. Honestly, he would have taken the kid for a complete wuss, whipped by his mother and psychiatrists if that slumped position and radiating cowardice and self-doubt was anything to go by.

"Good, ya goddamn pussy…" He lit up, not caring for the boy's lungs a bit. "Remember what I said. Shrinks are fuckin' idiots. Don't know shit about anything. Later, Con'. "

Little did either know, but later, many years later, their paths would cross once more, with a little help from a boy named Hanna. What a curious little web we live in.
