beautiful, specially the mask part... those whites and reds are tragic somehow.
and again, the horizontal lines.
i find myself perturbed by the empty eyes and the scarred mouth. maybe they are the most tragic of the two, after all..

see the third figure in the middle , almost invisible shadow ? Mask is falling and skin is dissolving , but shadow retains it´s composure ..
that turns tragedy into mystery .
horizontal lines can be seen like passage of time in linear thought , and make reference to corporeal and earth bound things .

picture can be seen to be about renewal where old skin is shed off .. mystery play

i can see all that, by looking or just by intuition.
good work with mystery, Markus!

it was mystery to me where this painting was going to until i put the final touches in it -
then i addet the third figure and noticed it was ready .

happens a lot to me, discovering things when finally they happen, and not before.

Creating when working , that´s how it happens most of the time , even if there´s a plan it usually changes ..
many times when working on big canvas like this , that takes lots of time .

yes big canvas. and anyway, painters much more time than photographers.

depends on the work in question - some of my smaller ones are done in seconds and some photos are edited for
weeks or months ( so i have heard , when eaves dropping photographers ) , but yes these big ones take lots of time ,
weeks , usually .

hehe, it's more like a waiting period than a working period

you mean like waiting for right insight for the work to appear ?
much same is true for painting , at least my paintings ( if doing simple realism it´s more just matter of spreading the colors )
lots of time goes staring at the work and putting it away for a while and doing something else ,
getting back to painting when idea appears ( or getting back to it even if idea doesn´t appear , just to get it forwards -
after all most ideas come when working ) .

thanks Rene . i used most unorthodox methods when making this - there´s layers of gesso and drawing between layers of paint and then paint again .
i also rotated the painting sideways and upside down while working . This is third painting on this same canvas - all that stuff must add some depth to the work .

nighmare part comes from trying to photograph these in current lightless conditions here - this one is shot outside in half darkness by day .

it´s much darker than many of my other paintings anyway - do you think i should have made it brighter in color ?

Don't change anything: these pastel colours are perfect!  ( never red in my painting!)

it´s lucky accident that this painting endet this way - i was finishing this when i had to leave for sometime - when i came back
i decited to leave it as it is . If i had worked for another day this would look very different .
