Description A funny story, I have this artist friend actually his a potter more than an artist. Anyway I get this phone call that apparently one of my works which was a pig, someone saw in his studio and wanted to buy it.

Now I have never drawn a pig so phoned him back saying that I don't have a pig. Anyway he asks me if I'd be willing to draw a pig. I said okay and carried on walking, I remember that I did lend him my cow [link]

So I asked him whether it was not the cow. He says that he does not remember the pig, so it must have been the cow, but the woman wants a pig because it’s the year of the pig and its Chinese new year.

So he gives me special paper to draw the pig. The woman was not prepared to pay a lot so I thought I’d not take to long to do it. Anyway the uber paper seams to break under pressure causing the dark pencil bits to break out into acne.

This is my first attempt at a pigapede and I have no idea if it’s good or crap. My initial reactions say crap but its up to you to decide. If its crap I’ll try again, but on boring paper that works… Don't hardcorely critique it cause I did not go blastic in putting effort in it.

It's a very appealing pig and what a bonus, extra pig's trotters (said by a vegetarian)

She's a beauty (or he).

The pig's expression is great, sad and comic. It well shaded, it would look great as a book illustration

it is ultimately up to you... if you don't feel it is worthy.. then do it over on that boring paper,lol.... but if you sort of like it... ask the person who wants it what they think....

sometimes, what the client wants and what you do are totally different!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

8025glome In reply to smartmonkeee [2007-01-19 08:53:59 +0000 UTC]

yeah true, I've never met the client and don't want to make a bad impression with a shoddy drawing. But you are correct that its up to them… I need to decided if this Piggy goes to market or not

i know.. rather ambiguous answer, lol... im always good for those. it is what i have found when doing design. sometimes, their tastes didn't match mine!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

8025glome In reply to smartmonkeee [2007-01-19 11:09:51 +0000 UTC]

That is the exact reason why I did not become a designer, I gave it up because clients have such bad taste. The guy in the office next to me is the designer and I am often giggling at the crazy demands that he is given eg: "we want dolphins to swim aound out website" or "can you change the arrow cursor with our logo"... Being a coder is easy it either works or does not, nothing subjective in that.

I was hoping to make this a majority survey so if I get less 's than usual then globally its worse or better than my average... silly huh?

im with you! i left the landscape design field for that reason.. and the fact that i was small time and needed to have better health coverage and a retirement plan! lol

Good ol' retirement and Medical aid, whenever I work for small companies my parents went on and on about those... Medical Aid is like gambling with luck, you need it just incase something may happen and you pay a huge monthly premium for something that may never happen.

i usually don't get really sick to go to a doctor... but i'm rather clumsy, lol so it is a good thing i have it. also, i needed it at the time for my kids... still do!

i like the idea that maybe i just might have enough cash when i am too old to work for tuna! lol

I'm with the previous commentors. Is it supposed to have six legs? And something is definitely wrong with the hindquarters at first I thought you were trying to make a image of a pig morphing into a ham. But The face is well done. Frankly I can't draw realistic animals worth shit. So any further critiqueing is not happening.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

8025glome In reply to Engel08 [2007-01-19 08:45:53 +0000 UTC]

its meant to be almost disturbing and six legged blob like. So if you are getting that it seems to be succesful !

AmyKollarAnderson [2007-01-19 00:56:17 +0000 UTC]

Guess it depends on what you were hoping to achieve with the drawing. If you were looking for a super creepy, very disturbing, looks like he is in pain pig...then you did it! If you were going for a Charlette's Web kinda pig, then you missed the mark. I think it is a nice drawing. I think it is going to haunt me for awhile...
