Description Edit: Changed the file after receiving a helpful critique I added in the light rays, put more detail on the shark and tweaked the shading for more contrast.

January's Submission for the Endangered Art Project: [link]

Common Name: Porbeagle Shark
Scientific Name: Lamna nasus
Status: Classified as Vulnerable (VU) on the IUCN Red List. The Northeast Atlantic and Mediterranean subpopulations are classified as Critically Endangered (CR) and the Northwest Atlantic subpopulation is classified as Endangered (EN).
Threats: Overfishing is the main threat, along with gill nets and human interference. The Canadian government has also not stopped the annual fishing quota of 185 tonnes (even though most ar only bringing in 70 tonnes), while everywhere else in the world Porbeagles are not allowed to be killed. There is no solid proof of either an increase or decrease in population. But some environmentalists claim that by stopping the Canadian fishing of these sharks, it can decrease the time it takes for them to recover by half a century. [link]

About the Art:
Originally i was going to do the staple Giant Panda, however i did not have time to paint and with school starting i thought it was best to hold off.
The porbeagle is one of my favorite sharks probably because it is not that well known. Its also Canadian I found out about them in 2004 when i was on vacation in the east coast.
I have to fix the pelvic fins on the belly. I shaped them wrong DX

Looks great (definitely 20x better than anything I could draw), though it looks kind of... fuzzy. :/ Some edges are kind of difficult to distinguish. As far as shading is concerned, it could be a bit more pronounced and dramatic on the shark itself. If you look closely at the pectoral fins of the shark, they seem to be slightly different shapes. It could also stand to have a bit more detail on the background, as the shark almost seems as if it's just... floating there. By the way, this is more critique than I was originally intending to write; I got caught by the 100 word minimum. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/let… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Lick)"/>

thank you for critiquing
the fuzziness i think was from the smudging process (or maybe the photoshop editing :/ I had to adjust the contrast since the shark got whited out during the scan).
i'll carefully outline (especially around the head since that looks the most fuzzy) the shark. i have to fix the pelvic fins so i'll tweak the pectoral right with them

i am a nervous shader XD i have had the problem of distinguishing value for a very long time. i think i am scared of making something too dark (which is actually easy to fix). as for the background, i'll see if i can find a reference for maybe sun rays. i haven't drawn and aquatic animal for a very long time so i'll have to experiment with it.

thanks again!

I like how you shifted your source towards a diagonal composition. It has much more impact this way
