This is for The Friendly Elephant's art contest ending March 17, where entries must include an elephant, in any shape or form one so chooses. I don't really expect to win, but this prompt (just like other contests I've entered as of late) has sparked my artistic interest anyways.
This non-pony art piece could've gone in a few different directions...at first I thought I'd draw Dumbo with Rainbow Dash and/or Fluttershy, then I thought I'd try to draw one of the elephants from the Jungle Book...but nothing caught my attention and sparked my inspiration more than a random Disney short called "Goliath II" from 1960.

This short is full of recycled animation from many sources, including Dumbo, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan, but it's still a worthwhile cartoon to check out, in my opinion.
Long story short, it's a cute plot that's about an elephant that's so teeny-tiny it gets dwarfed by flowers, and the struggles that one so small has to deal with. But despite all odds, he turns out to be the bravest in his herd. I won't spoil how.
This took about 2 hours to do with Prismacolor pencils. Oh how I love those things.

Just watched it. I like the whole ending and all but i dont get why they were scared of a mouse to begin with. I thought Goliath would have maybe make a real loud elephant sound at the end in all honesty

it used to be a common myth that elephants are scared of mice. I'm not sure how common it is anymore, but there you go.

AWWWW! Well this is adorable, Bright! Love the Disney-esque style he has as well as the source material! Disney is always full of inspiration indeed!
Also really like how the blue flower sort of accentuates that he is indeed a tiny Elephant.

Oooh. This reminds me of that one episode of Tom and Jerry, the one with the elephant. I believe it was Jerry and Jumbo? If there was anything I recall from that episode, it's how they made the elephant actually resemble a mouse. In this case, because of that, without the trunk, this elephant here does actually look like a cute mouse. ^_^ Squeak! Squeak!
