Description Okay, not that this picture would be finished, but I dont have the mood to play with it anymore, so I'll just put it up here and see what happens.

A wannabe-response to :userreptilecynrik:'s [link] in terms of lighting and stuff. Well, maybe I got already to 1/4 performance as it should have been. But thats my fault since I used only one lightsource o.O

Other than that, the story in this picture is (again) from the last Esertosian-Human war in 2206 from the fights in Yok.
In the window you can see the VTP Rozsutec-T tank, whilst the soldier in the foreground wields a PZ-5 UG machine gun.

Finally, watch the sun and atmoshpere. I dare to say its the best I made so far

Edit: Done with only a mouse (and a crappy ref. sketch) in photoshop.

Reminds me of BattleField 1942, when I'd hide inside the houses and sniper people down from the third story windows. Oh how people hate it when you do that.

A very solemn picture, this one. The lighting is good, but seems as though it could use a little more... uhm... what's the word... I dunno. Could be a little more brighter, more obvious. If that's what I mean. I think I mean it.

Still love it, though. As usual, fantastic work on positions and body structure.

Heheh, quite as you say! Even in RL airsoft, when some people shoot from a building, its hell for those who are on the other side since they have no possibility to take them down. I survived around 8 seconds there, on the other side

Thanks! The lighting was meant to be a little foggy since there are dust particles and other stuff flying in the air, distorting the light rays. Otherwise, its a good excuse for my laziness

*bows* thanks, once again!

Thanks.
In fact, I tried to make it so that in each moment it should look finished :/

Well, I could've played more with it, but since I lacked all attributes for doing so, I put it up as it is now

Personally I think the lighting suits this picture, afterall the sniper IS hiding so the picture would look contradicting to the scenario if it was brighter. I'm just wondering where the spotter is*. Teivos probably knows what I mean. Anyhoo, awsome picture! DON'T CHANGE IT!!! It suits it's purpose as-is.

(*For all those who don't know, snpers usually go in pairs, one guy spots and the other guy shoots)

Well, he is more or less a MG operator (In the description it was also said its a machine gun what he holds)
If it was a sniper, he would probably choose a different location to shoot from since this one is still a bit too "visible". Another soldier is on the far right side of the picture, but either you must put a huge effort on focusing (due to white BG on DA) or just save the pic on your comp and view it without such white framing
Thanks for the comment!

I can only see on soldier. o o
*pokes him in the head*
Is there meant to be more than one (implied by the plural) or is there only one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

A-Teivos In reply to saruuk [2008-05-14 11:37:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, there are two. The bad thing about the second one is that he's too dark to be seen on DA, since the glowy white background of the website. Save the picture on your comp and view it with dark surrounding and I'm sure you'll see the other guy as well He's on the far right side of the pic.

Like I said... PHOTOSHOP is your tool of trade!!!! Very nicely done and I love that gloomy, dark, cold, lost atmosphere!! The picture is very dark, but there is one proplem (not about the picture, though): I cannot really suggest to look at it here on DA!!! The outline of this website is too bright. I suggest, people should save the picture and watch it in FULL VIEW SCREEN MODE! And then.... wooooooow! Very nice. Even the second soldier in the background is visible then.
Overall, a very nice mood, great setting and realistic choice of colours. I did not really WANTED you to "pick up the gauntlet", but you did!! And you made the best of it. ^..^ A worthy and great counterpart. And your picture tells a very intense story. That is your "artistical future", I think.... at least, it is a wonderful piece.

A-Teivos In reply to ReptileCynrik [2008-05-14 11:36:04 +0000 UTC]

Whew! Thanks!
Yeah, it is a common problem for all darker pictures, the eye of the viewer gets distracted by the white BG on DA.
Maybe next time I should encourage people to do that, what you said
You know, in the beginning I wanted to 'ick up the gauntlet' in a more fitting way (more lightsources, etc etc), but then when I was making it, I realised the picture goes its own way and I guess its better as it is now.
Thanks for your comment, once again!
Hopefully I'll do more like this in the future

thunderfox5 [2008-05-11 13:23:08 +0000 UTC]

that looks interesting! It sorta looks more reallistic due to the lack of lineart in it, which is great! On a more matterialistic critique, judging by the rifle muzzle, I don't think a straight bipod would withstand the kickback on a .50 BMG

A-Teivos In reply to thunderfox5 [2008-05-11 14:00:19 +0000 UTC]

Yea, thanks.

Well, its not a .50 bmg. Thats the reason.

thunderfox5 In reply to A-Teivos [2008-05-11 14:01:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, I was just saying... That's the high dispersion muzzle characteristic to the .50
