(( Alert ))
Ever since Lykos ran away from the Cultists, he believes a demon hunts him everywhere he goes. Plagued by the idea that one or both of his parents are pursuing him in order to sacrifice him to Digend, he expects it's only a matter of time before he is overtaken by the very thing he's fought soo hard to escape.
(( Bitter | Anti-God ))
Koh has developed a bitter taste in his mouth toward authority, with a special distaste in the name of Digend. He remains a Vegabond only because he refuses to submit to any who try to practice authority over him by means of faith and worship. Not to be confused with being bitter toward the general population.
(( Restless ))
Koh has begrudgingly learned to live on as little rest as possible due to his restless nature to stay alert. Consequently, he maintains a leaner muscular stature, but has the genetic potential to easily maintain a stronger body physique.
(( Reserved ))
Slow to trust, he is quite reserved and will rarely talk about himself to others. This has lead him to talking more and more to himself as years have gone by. Some view his behavior as distant or detached, but desire his help nonetheless.
(( Reliable ))
Although he's reserved, many overlook this personality and value their trust in him. He has made it his sole duty to help any in need that he encounters, unless he finds that their motives for desiring his help are unjust. Sometimes he does so against his better judgement.
(( Trustworthy ))
Though he likely won't feel the same about you, Koh still knows and maintains secrets he's accumulated by witness and word of mouth over the years.
(( Respective ))
Lykos is all ears if you need someone to vent or share with, and he won't judge you for it, unless it directly affected him in some point in his past. He is not one to pry, so he won't ask you about yourself if you don't initiate the topic.
(( Nonchalant ))
If he finally meets his maker, he will accept whatever his fate without blinking an eye; that is unless it gets between him helping someone who's defenseless. He's been known to be eerily, and perhaps even annoyingly, calm or unreadible in most situations, including intense ones.
(( Eccentric ))
Anyone who spends an extended amount of time around Lykos will notice that he speaks, and often behaves, in an eccentric manner. His voice will sometimes shift through sing-song notes for normal speech, or dip into a trance-like tone, speaking as though only to himself.
(( Empathetic ))
Koh has learned to take the time to understand others, and why they feel or may act the way they do. It's led him to have pity towards his parents, but also makes him prone to mourning over those he's never had a relationship with personally.
History
<< Indoctrination >>
As far back as Koh can remember, though he wishes he couldn't, he recalls the strict and lackluster flashes of foal-hood he'd endured. Mother and father...dam and sire. Something few others know is that he was bred with the intention to overthrow the Ascendant of the occult, and lead the followers in their worship of Digend. He remembers the guidelines and rules his parents placed before him, and the expectations that were borderline impossible or detestable for him to fulfill in his tender youth. His parents were sure they could train him up to become who they schemed for him to be, and did so purely for their own gain rather than for the benefit of their first-born. Training was long, hard, and merciless; he became accustomed to days without eating; his parents claimed it was all done in the name of Digend, a name that he'd been convinced was genuine and worthy of being feared. Be that as it may, trying as hard as he could to please both his parents and the god they worshiped, Koh would get kicked by his parents, or threatened into submission by their familiars; he was lead to believe this beatings were honorable and knew nothing else for years. He became tough-skinned, taking his punishment and serving others as he was commanded to. As tough as he believed he was, his childish heart yearned for and sought out the affection of his parents. As the proving got closer and closer, Koh detached himself from reality in a determined effort to make his parents proud.
<< The Proving >>
Hell-bent on being more than a nameless object of ridicule and abuse, ready to give orders rather than to take them, Koh stood in the enclosed ring as his muscles twitched with excitement. The wolf and Koh charged at each other, teeth bared and mouths wet with drool, both determined to draw blood from the other. The wolf was large, almost as big as Koh at his just 12 years of age. A few kicks was all it took for Koh to stun the wolf just long enough for him to clamp his teeth tightly on the back of his neck. He attempted to break it, but his jaw just wasn't strong enough, and the wolf slipped away with a yelp. Tasting the blood he drew on his tongue, he glared back at the wolf that had turned to attack once more, and his mind blurred in an instant. A fit of rage overtook the young stallion, and the next thing he knew, there was fresh blood dropping from his mouth and pouring onto the dirt beneath them. Heaving from the adrenalin, eyes wide in a power-hungry psychotic gaze, Koh panted while he stared the motionless wolf in the eye. As he stared, trembling as the rage passed away from him, he swore he could see the very light within the pupil of the wolf gazing back into him fading, until his eyes were dark and lifeless. Koh wasn't new to seeing bloody lifeless bodies of animals around him, but they'd already been killed by the time he'd seen them. The new taste of injustice wrecked through him like a tidal wave, and for the first time ever he cried out in anger.
It took only moments after calming down for Koh to decide on a name for himself: Lýkos (Greek pronunciation), meaning wolf.
Unfortunately, the reaction from his parents was not a positive one. Outraged by his mediocre and degrading name choice, they asked Digend to curse the name the colt had chosen. Far be it from them to claim a child that refferred to themselves as the very pathetic beasts he was expected to slaughter. To further display their disapproval, they referred to their son as 'L' from then on.
<< Unacceptable >>
Life didn't get any easier for Lykos after the proving. If anything, it became more difficult, and he had half a mind to believe it was because of Digend. His parents bred for another child, one that they verbally claimed would become the true Ascendant, blessed and looked after by their lord. Their dedication towards training Koh became antipathy against him. After years of seeing and learning little other than dark deeds, curses, and chants, Koh came to the realization that existence in the name of another was a sick form of torture, and everyone was the victim. The longer he meditated on this assumption, the more bitter he became toward authority. The days had come when he'd proudly take a beating before he'd follow a twisted order from another indoctrinated pawn; but the less he reacted to the beatings, the harsher they became. He didn't care, and, to his parents bewilderment, any flesh wounds he received would not scar, or would turn his fur white.
<< Runaway >>
It'd been 3 years since the proving, and Koh was sick; sick of the constant smell of blood, sick of the torture toward the innocent, and sick of the fact that he wasn't capable of doing anything about it. The very mention of Digend, or the name of any god, made his stomach twist in disgust. He wanted out, and he plotted how he could do so without being murdered for his transgression; he knew his parents would be more than happy to spill his blood. He was tired of being judged, and wanted true justice to be served. He wanted them to taste of their injustice, and he wanted to protect others like himself from the injustice of any who belittled or robbed others of their life and happiness. He would protect others from the Cultists, no matter the cost; all life was precious; he learned that in the arena. Lykos couldn't figure out a better way to escape than during the Night of Bloodletting. After pretending to pray with the others, they gave chase. It felt colder than he thought it'd be, and watching the mare run aimlessly and desparately before them pulled his heart out of his chest. Koh toyed with multiple scenarios of reaching the mare before the others could notice, and helping her find her way out of this mess, but every scenario he came up with was a dead end. Ice cold tears stabbed the lids of his eyes as he accepted the fact that she could not be saved. Bringing up the back of the group, he slowly put distance between himself and the others until he could find an opening to safely bolt out of sight without being heard or noticed. Once he did, he ran as fast as he could, and he felt as though a part of him was left behind with the young mare.
It was almost dawn when he heard a blood-curdling whinney far off in the distance. Simultaneously, what felt like an dark weight tugged behind him. The eerie new feeling caused him to stop dead in his tracks, hold his breath, and glance back around him to see who was following. No one stepped forward, and there wasn't a single sound to be heard except extremely faint whinnies far off in the distance. Anxiously, he trotted a ways forward before stopping again and looking once more. Dead silence surrounded him, but the feeling as though something was chasing him remained. Taking a deep breath, he stared forward, and continued into a future with a purpose, but unknown nonetheless.
<< Current >>
Koh has grown to live for helping the innocent and those treated in unjust matters. Not even asking for thanks in return for his aid, he has not wavered in his desire to help others. While he lives to bring rest and peace to others, Koh himself cannot find rest. Even after all these years, Koh still feels the unpleasant presence of darkness chasing him wherever he goes.
(-- Extended Design Notes --)
-- Out of distress, Koh has a habit of rubbing his would-be long mane and tail short, focusing on the middle of his neck to his forelock, in order that his eyesight is unobstructed no matter the situation. Doing this often against tree bark has sapped most of his mane to stand more-so upright and in a contained shape. Consequently, his mane and tail tend to give off a subtle sweet aroma, like vanilla or cinnamon; however, you must be standing close to smell it.
-- Although he is partially paint horse, the majority of his spotting decorates the back half of his body; however, he is genetically capable of passing on strong paintiloosa marks that roan throughout the pelt.
-- His roaning is mutated, resulting in definitive marks that aren't grainy in appearance.
-- The ends of his hair, no matter how long or short, are a different color than they are at the root. The only exception is where his mane meets the dark diamond on his forehead, causing his bangs to be a solid color; it's the same color as the tips of the rest of his hair.
-- Not growing in until reaching maturity, Lykos has a short beard extending between the front of his cheek to the back of his muzzle; this is not visible in some angles.
-- Although he is a half friesian sport-horse, his fetlock does not have thick feathering.
