my only question is this, is that a sword or his hand? it's hard to tell

Looking like the protagonist.
A young man, fated to be the heir of the throne of darkness, chooses to deny destiny after being thrust into the world of light. After getting lost in the realm between the two worlds he finds himself being saved from wild animals by a farm girl looking for adventure, this event sets off a chain reaction which will spark an outright war between light and shadow, with him caught in the middle of it all. Some telling him he's a chosen Saviour, others saying he's a monster, and his own uncertainty of it all will either strengthen his resolve, or break him completely.
Just based on the design, I think you could fit him into a lot of personalities. Personally I'd take him in the direction of someone with high ambitions, but is easily lost in his own thoughts and worries, making him indecisive. Despite this he has a knack for strategy and close quarters combat. Or something like that.
In any case, he looks cool, I like the overall a-symmetrical look, and your choice of colors fit well.
