this is ace. i tried to do him more as a portrait this time. i used a posture from a previous picture for the angle of the head and such (the picture is on emilyangels page under by ace) but i had to come up with all the shading and how to do the face on the spot. this is the last picture of mine melissa saw before she died. i finished it for her.Related content

hmmmm... well yes he's me in a way and yes he has my name. it's a story really. back when my fiance melissa was alive she used to love to go through my sketchbooks and find the characters i had come up with. then she tried to figure out how that character fit into me or was a part of my mind and personality. she was very good at it too. she used to spend hours with me just coming up with ideas or figuring out ideas. it was always kinda fun. one day she and i were at the park in my neighbourhood and we were siting on a bench just laughing aabout random stuff and out of the blue she turned to me and told me to create a character that was my personality. my souls image is what she called it. and she came up with his idea. i just expanded laid the details for his personality and backstory and then made his design. actually i think if oyu go to one of my deviations called melissa in a nutshell it should have the story in there. that little writing piece is also a tribute to her as is the melissa quotes 1. you should read em. it'd help ya understand what kinda person she is and the girl i fell in love with. ^^

didn't mean to make you cry.... smile sure tho. i sriously belive that if everyone were like her our world would be perfect. i just never knew what she saw in someone like me. but i loved her nonetheless. i loved her a lot.

not really. i'm really a bad person.... and i've seen a lot of stuff i want to forget. and i'm sure you noticed my language is very foul at times.... but that came with the territory i suppose. i've seen a lot of my closest friends die. 3 were shot, 6 commited suicide, 2 were knifed, 1 was beaten to death by a crazy kid with a basebll bat, 2 were killed in drunk driving accidents, and 9 overdosed on drugs. i've also been to jail and helped out the russian mafia on an occasion or two. like i said i'm not the best person but i do try to change. i'm tired of that life now. i've seen too many die and too many make stupid decisions and it seemed like the best people i knew died. that's why i try and be nice and try and be a good person. i want to be more like melissa and less like the old me.

the only crit i have on this is that, with the angle you have him at, his right eye (to him) is slightly higher than it should be. you want to have the eye at less of a crescent curve and more of a slight bend.
when you draw how do you start? just with making the outlines of the face and body and going into detail or do you start with shapes? ^__^

me? usually outline in light pencil and then i go back and shade it in.

try outlining lightly and shaping lightly. you can find some pliable eraser that is like playdoe, that's the best stuff to use to get everything off of a page no matter how dark it is.
try working with shapes and see where that takes you. it mostly helps as a guide just so you get the basic positioning for the facial features down as best as possible. ^_^ even for full bodies i still use shapes, hell it's so much easier having shapes guiding you when you have so much to work on overall. ^_^b

i usually start out with a light outline to start with and i'll darken it in as i go. i have one of those. i think it's called a kneaded eraser. it's quite the useful too.
i only ever really use those little guidline across the face and down the middle of it to position everything properly without a skew. i may well start using shapes. i was raised on no shape tho. i think it's just the way i was taught to not use shapes... i dunno. i will try it tho. sorry if me exchanges don't come out on da real quick. i'm a stickler for details so i usually take about a day on my pictures drawing and re drawing.

no no it's ok... i'm not done yet either. i haven't even started. those are just sketches of trying to see if i got the right look for the characters. i always do a few sketches first before I even think about doing the real thing. ^__^;; just to be on the safe side. though since you're liking it, i may try one more sketch, but this time of them together before I do anything. ^_^
