i wanted to make a grunge art nouveau fantasy poster for a final. it is utilizing a traditional media technique called tempera resist, where one paints in white tempera then covers the board in ink. after all is dry, washing off the tempera reveals the highlights or negative space, leaving the ink around the tempera.so it creates these interesting textures. great for that grunge atmosphere. all the textures/ design elements are created by the tempera resists.
so, yeah. i kinda like this one.

well all of it is traditional...except for the color. there were about ten original parts that had the tempera resist technique applied to, then were scanned and pieced together in photoshop. those parts are black and white on illustration board...and are now all shriveled up. after put together in PS, i painted over it. so, all the glowy parts are digital, especially the fire from her hands and the smoke shapes. but it's more traditional than digital.

tempera is basically cheap paint. kinda like acrylics but not as good. like a small 3oz tube of acrylics is like 4bucks, but you can get a 20oz bottle of tempera for 3. so, yeah...some price comparos for you.
