Description How many times have you seen a dead leaf caught in a web, and like me, thought that the wind had blown it there?

The spider actually hoists the leaf up on a silken thread. Once I knew that spiders hide in these leaves, I looked at every one I came across, and finally I found one with the spider peeping out at me.

I've got quite interested in spiders lately.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JonnyGoodboy In reply to AdamsWife [2009-05-08 16:59:25 +0000 UTC]

In shooting them or their habits in general?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamsWife In reply to JonnyGoodboy [2009-05-08 22:26:37 +0000 UTC]

Both. I know of another spider that makes a sort of box out of a gum leaf and although I found these leaves a couple of times, I have yet to see the spider peeping out. Perhaps it sees me coming With this Leaf Curling Spider, I've learnt that if you squeeze gently on the end of the leaf, the spider will pop his head out the other.

And then we have the Wolf Spider [link] in our garden who I was terrified of at first, but find her habit of putting a lid on and off her hidey-hole depending on the weather, very interesting. And as she mostly goes hunting at night, I forget she's there most of the time. I just hope she doesn't find a mate as I dont really fancy having too many around the places where I walk.

spiders in leafs? what next they will be hiding under your toilet seat , wonderful definition

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AdamsWife In reply to InanimateSickBoy [2009-05-08 07:17:22 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. And believe it or not, if you have an outside dunny (Australian outdoor toilet) you always lift up the seat to make sure there are no redback spiders under it. I think there is even a song about it.
