Studies of bared midriffs have been emphasized in the sketching I've been doing semi-daily since late 2016, due in part to the frequency with which we see exposed bellies in my ongoing comic series Empowered. (To be fair, the same goes for guys in the series, as my default approach to drawing six-pack abs has left a bit to be desired.) As I'm tired of repeating the same ol' crap outta my head, I've been trying to learn at least a little somethin' new in terms of both anatomy and shading. One obvious source for midriff-related photoreference is, as you might guess, paused bellydancing videos; here's the first set of a (whole) bunch of such dance-based sketches.Related content
