Commission sketch from Mid-Ohio Con 2011; Copic marker, ink, white paint pen, colored pencil.Iron fist has been a favorite of mine since I was little. If I'm being honest, I was first drawn to him because A) I loved martial arts as a kid, B) "Iron Fist" is a total badass name, and C) his mask was really cool. When you're little, that's all it takes.
The years have gone by, characters have come and gone, and there still aren't any pure martial arts characters in any superhero universe that are as cool as Iron Fist.

Cool picture of my favourite comic book martial artist. I fell in love with the character as a kid, for me it was the glowing fist and the dragon on his chest that clinched it.

I used Bruce Lee for body reference - the ultimate martial artist build! I greatly prefer superhero comics to have a variety of body types representative of the characters themselves and not just the one-and-only body size the artist knows how to draw.

Yeah, I've seen a bunch. They did this whole Immortal Iron Fist series that showed a bunch of Iron Fists through history, and it was awesome. Really gave the current character context.

I really like the tight build you gave him. It's appropriately Bruce Lee instead of the standard Marvel Stallone build.

He's a character from the 70's, back when kung fu movies were tearing up the big screen. He's been back in a major way in the last half-decade, though, and now he's a full-on Avenger. Give him a look, particularly the Immortal Iron Fist series. Very cool stuff.
