Coolest weapon (huge greatsword), coolest power (light-based bolts and auras), coolest archetype (wisdom), coolest nemesis (Cale ), coolest colorscheme (green, black, gold), coolest haircut... Sage was absolutely the unquestionable best of the bunch.Β
Is it just me, or is the "main" character in these ensemble shows always the most boring one? I love Leonardo from the TMNT and Cyclops from X-Men, but Ryo (Ronin Warriors), Keith (Voltron), Jason (Power Rangers), Lion-O (Thundercats)... the "main" character was never my favorite. They were so milquetoast! But the shows always revolved around them, no matter how awesome the rest of the cast was. In RW, Rowan and Sage could probably have handled all the business that needed handling on their own, maaaybe calling in Kento to lift heavy stuff or Cye to grab things from the bottom of the sea or whatever. But NOOOO! They had to get sidelined every episode so boring-ass Ryo could get the Inferno armor all on his own! At least with Voltron all the pilots were in there together!

Having a seriously nostalgic moment this evening and found your work. Awesome pieces of one of my favorite shows when I was a kid! Sage and Rowan were my (and my best friend's favorites). I fully agree that leading man (or woman) syndrome is a thing.

Ikr!Β Rowen and Sage could've batman-ed their way to victory. I mean wasn't Rowen supposed to be some kinda genius, but in the show they didn't show any of his intellectual prowess (just being a captain obvious is about all they made him do). I hope they reboot it, and focus on EVERYONE ELSE, including the warlords, instead of Ryo (not that I hate him).Β

These shows tend to focus far too much on the lead character, who is almost always the most bland one. They want him to be the most likeable, so he winds up kind of milquetoast and all the supporting characters are the ones who get to have personality and quirks.

Oh yes. RW, Gundam Wing, and Rurouni Kenshin were my favorites and I would love for any/all of them to get a well-deserved reboot <3

No problem. Ronin Warriors was one of my favorite anime shows back then. And it still holds a great deal of nostalgic value for me to this day.

There seems to be a lot of 90's anime getting resurrected and/or rebooted. Maybe us RW fans will get lucky and there will be a new series? One that displays the group as a team more than leaning towards a Ryo and his Amazing Friends theme.
Also, really dig your take on Sage. I'm always partial to green in the "sentai" type stuff, and his nodachi is wicked cool! Again, great work!

I would LOVE a modern remake. I've always felt like this show was an underappreciated gem, and if it were relaunched with more modern sensibilities it could finally get the wider recognition it deserved.
