Description Tom Waits.
water soluble oil pastels on watercolour paper.
sometimes you just have to use what you have.
i was extremely frustrated with these pastels last time around, but i had no other options, and no money to go out and buy new art supplies. this was a disaster from the begining. These pastels are extremely hard to control, extremely greasy, yet they don't spread/smear very well. very hard to do detail...but i figured out that if you wipe them, every time you make a stroke, with tissue, the color is a little bit easier to control. this turned out alright, i wish i could have done something more interesting with the backgroun, but i ran out of white 3/4 of the way through the drawing...and had to improvise. oh well.

This is a damn good painting. You could give me some lessons with oil pastels. You've gotten some awesome results here. I've never tried them.

Favs on this one. It's AWESOME ! ! !

thank you so much!... just try them. use the real cheap stuff too, they seem to blend the best, i bought the real expensive stuff, and i can't say that the results are any better. you'll go through them pretty quickly though, but they are an interesting medium. i wanted to try using oil paintstiks but they are pretty expensive, have you had any experience with them?

You're welcome.

No, I've never tried anything other than oil in a tube. But they seem interesting. (oil pastels and paintstiks)

You are so awesome with color. I know you don't like using the oil pastels but they turn out so damn good for you. I know what you mean with the white, I use more of that than any other color easy.

thank you. i've always hated using oil pastels, but i seem to be using them the most lately, geesh i probably haven't used acrylic in forever (and that's my favorite medium) maybe i just like torturing myself? yeah you kind of become defenseless when you run out of white.

You're welcome. Acrylics are my favorite too. I would go insane without them. I seem to like torturing myself too. Something will work good for me and I will try to change it before it has run it's course. Certain colors will begin to emerge in my paintings and will fight them. I guess we are kinda like Van Gogh in that respect.
