Description Bess and George continued to look implacably at Jack, George wielding the menacing-looking stick and Bess still clutching the coil of rope meaningfully. “It’s over, Jack!” Georgina hissed. Suddenly, and with a despondent shrug of disappointment, Jack gave up and clasped his hands behind his head signifying his surrender to the girls. He looked over at Tom, who was approaching the group closely followed by Nancy.
“What are you doing, Jack?” his friend demanded, looking aghast.
Jack looked over at him. “She’s right, Tom,” he replied sadly, “kidnapping Nancy Drew was our last chance of finding the Anchor and the treasure. We’ve failed. They’ve won.”
Tom looked over his shoulder at Nancy, the girl detective who just minutes before he had been pursuing up the cliff side with malicious intent.
Nancy met his gaze evenly. “It’s probably best if you surrender too, Tom.” she advised.
Tom glowered at the girl in resentment, but then he too, placed his hands on his head.

To be continued.
