Description
The man stands with his back to Norika, hands pressed behind him, waiting. The young policewoman holds her breath as she cautiously approaches him, but as she takes hold of one wrist to fix a metal cuff around it, she realises the man has no resistance left in him. She quickly secures his hands behind his back with the familiar crrrk crrk sound of handcuffing and then turns him round to face her.
“Aw c’mon love,” her bound prisoner protests, a wounded expression on his face, “I’ve always been good to you lot. Can’t we just put this down to experience?”
“My lot?” Norika asks, eyes narrowing.
“Yeah,” replies the man, “you know, birds, Pakis…” Norika sighs. “If you mean Pakistani women, then you have a funny way of showing it - putting a knife to my throat!” she retorts. “And I’ve already told you. My parents come from India, not Pakistan.”
“Whatever.” the handcuffed man replies glumly. Norika grasps him by the elbow and marches him out of the yard.
“I’ve got to waste time booking you now, mate,” she tells him crossly, “while your thieving scroat of a son gets away with it!”
“What?” her captive replies, seemingly puzzled.
