Summer night, very early in the morning, eyes heavy with exhaustion from the day's events, driving home. no radio, only silence - the party that we departed had a penchant for loud music, and we needed to decompress. lonely on the country road, farmland and blacktop pass by under black sky, headlights catching nothing but an occasional road sign. There's a stillness - not quite eerie, but noticeable - that seemed to paint the scene of a stagnant landscape, passing through a lifeless space. Shadows of a wooded area cast themselves onto the horizon, appearing like mountains or hills towering in the distance. Then a brief, subtle flash of light, ignored initially as another road marker, flickers on the road far ahead in an unusual manner. Imagination wanders and the thoughts flow freely - what could it be? Some hesitation takes us over and the vehicle slows, the awareness heightens; it must be nothing out of the ordinary, but our reaction does not reflect our attempted rationality.
