This picture is very unique in that it is so odd. The background looks like a mined cave...yet the wire makes me think a super-unfinished basement. Along with the look on the girls face and the tree, it's a pretty original and stand-out piece. Very original, definitely one of those pieces you don't see everyday! Great job!

thanks for your well-adviced comment. the thoughts you had while watching the image made me happy.

btw: the background is a little abandoned building, the floor of which gave way to gravity.

unfortunately that tree is the remains of a bonsai, completely dried out. you can guess how hard it is to care for it...
thanks for your nice comment.

discovering this location happened by accident, i just wanted to relax from all that urban pressure for once, and so i decided to take a ride through the total rurals. after a small odyssee along several unpaved roads, i came across this beatiful old ruin all by accident. it's directly next to a lake and in an absolute messed-up shape.
also, when i shot this one, i even had to watch my steps carefully, for merely half of the floor was still intact, except for one or the other crossbar. but still, i can really say that i love this place and i still i do return to it sometimes. it's so calm there and its abandonment was a good contrast to my well-in-shape model, i guess,

thanks for your interest!

Nice shot!
I would love to see a edited version of this photo, tough. Maybe a little more shadows here and there, and a little darker colors overall.. To make it more... spooky. I can't find the right word, but i think you know what I mean.

How powerful.

I love these types of shot. The monochrome colors really compliment everything and give out a great mood. I like how to green moss contrasts with everything else, and between you and I, I would have liked to see a bit more, just so the part you're holding would stick out even more.

I don’t particularly like the person being in the photo because I feel like they don’t fit into the picture properly, as the room they are in is so rundown and the girl in the photo is dressed in everyday clothes... However you might have done this deliberately.
But that’s a really cool abandoned looking building and your photography skills seem to be quite good.

Well I thought that you might have done that’s why I said: However you might have done this deliberately. Personally I like really dark and grimy images as you might be able to tell my gallery… Oh that and Mice.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

adornoir In reply to Vic-Hypnoticpoison [2007-09-23 12:32:58 +0000 UTC]

i understand your objections and responding to these, i must explain that i aimed for contrast by putting the normally-dressed model into this abandoned room. this strong way of heterogeneity is the main factor why i look at this picture again and again instead of just letting my eyes run over it for a few seconds. so i thought others would also find it interesting that way. so it's more a personal favourite.
thanks for your honest opinion.

Out of the three this might be my least favorite, there's nothing wrong with the picture itself, I just have no real experience in judging portraits as I don't have much experience in that..

bonzai!!!!! where's the bushes? hahaha...

i love how she holds the tree.. but i prefer if the background is plain white... dont you think?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

adornoir In reply to tormented-feet [2007-09-20 04:13:47 +0000 UTC]

yeah, i know where you want to go with letting this image plain white in the background. but my main aim is (although i'm not always successful with that) to create a sort of semi-focus on pictures. to get the eyes of a viewer concentrated on both the model and her surroundings. or just to keep the balance for a better chi .

thanks for your lovely thoughts.
