I really like this but i don't know why!!!
Reminds me of some strange factory for some reason... my imagination runs away with me on this one.

Thanks for taking a look. I have to admit there's still a lot with the tut that I want to explore.

Heard of Vue. They have a Vue gallery at Renderosity where I used to post. Actually, I'm thinking of getting Lightwave. I found a site that I can get it dirt cheap because of my school status. Seriously thinking about it.

Awesome. I ordered it today. Have to mail in the school paperwork, but I should be approved for the purchase. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to save $1600. Heard way too many great things to pass that opportunity up.

Ok you asked for a critique so excuse me in advance if I come off to hard on you. The quality is really not all the good on the render, I know Bryce needs a faster rendering and anti-analyzing engine but in this it looks like it quit half way though. Next time it does that hit your PC as hard as you can and yell obscenities at the top of your lungs. Also go into Photoshop or any top-notch image editing program and use the smudge/blur/smooth tool set at a low setting of like 10 or 5% and blur along the contours of the render. The actual image could show more of the render as I only see a quarter of it. I know some artist can get away with it but they have a lot of details to show up close, I see you donβt have as much detail so zoom out a bit. The secret to a good abstract Bryce piece is the amount of color variety and detail the render has.
If you notice the images on βSpudzβ tutorial not one of them is a close βnot that thatβs a bad thingβ and all of them have a mass amount of detail. I donβt know if Bryce will allow you to render sections of images but you should consider it. Also this image has no main point of view, which is a downside. Overall Iβd say this image has potential, it just needs a work around. Also a bit of concept wouldnβt hurt, like for instance some of Spudzβs abstracts resembled cities or structures of some sort.

Thank you, that helps a lot. I'm at the beginnings steps of learning new things and finding bryce is limited in some ways, while capable in others. The quality might be from partial compression to keep the file size from being too large. Not completely sure, but I'll check and if so, I'll start posting smaller images. You have a lot of great points, as well as the ones in your journal, so I have some great information to consider the more I work on these. I'm a perfectionist and aim to improve, so any critique is well received. Appreciate you taking the time for the long write-up and I'll do my best to post better images the more I learn and practice.

Thanks, Jim. Working on techniques and style, but I feel like this was a great progress from all the other pure bryce work I've done.

Hmm... I wonder if you can change surfaces light reflection/refraction values in Bryce...

Aeires In reply to Prometeus [2005-01-27 02:41:05 +0000 UTC]
Actually you can. There are a lot of specifications, of which specularity (how much light is reflected), reflection, and refraction are part of. Sometimes I drop the specularity to keep light sources from spotting a surface.
