I like it! It's good for Bryce! I personally like these type of reflective abstract renders. I have a problem with all the brushing some do to their renders. Good work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to TDBK [2005-01-29 21:11:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I like the clean renders more myself also. Brushing is cool, but I think I see too much of it. I've been practicing it, so I might use it in the future, but it's going to be kept to a minimal amount. Still learning bryce also, so hopefully I can show better works in the future.

I used to use BRYCE and I think It's a pretty good program. Let me bring Vue to your attention though.. --> [link] It's alot like BRYCE only way better and well worth the price. I switched a while back to vue 4 and I am happy that I did! Now I need to get version 5.

Heard of Vue. They have a Vue gallery at Renderosity where I used to post. Actually, I'm thinking of getting Lightwave. I found a site that I can get it dirt cheap because of my school status. Seriously thinking about it.

Ok you asked for a critique so excuse me in advance if I come off to hard on you. The quality is really not all the good on the render, I know Bryce needs a faster rendering and anti-analyzing engine but in this it looks like it quit half way though. Next time it does that hit your PC as hard as you can and yell obscenities at the top of your lungs. Also go into Photoshop or any top-notch image editing program and use the smudge/blur/smooth tool set at a low setting of like 10 or 5% and blur along the contours of the render. The actual image could show more of the render as I only see a quarter of it. I know some artist can get away with it but they have a lot of details to show up close, I see you don’t have as much detail so zoom out a bit. The secret to a good abstract Bryce piece is the amount of color variety and detail the render has.
If you notice the images on β€œSpudz” tutorial not one of them is a close β€œnot that that’s a bad thing” and all of them have a mass amount of detail. I don’t know if Bryce will allow you to render sections of images but you should consider it. Also this image has no main point of view, which is a downside. Overall I’d say this image has potential, it just needs a work around. Also a bit of concept wouldn’t hurt, like for instance some of Spudz’s abstracts resembled cities or structures of some sort.

Aeires In reply to Deleted-X [2005-01-27 22:17:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, that helps a lot. I'm at the beginnings steps of learning new things and finding bryce is limited in some ways, while capable in others. The quality might be from partial compression to keep the file size from being too large. Not completely sure, but I'll check and if so, I'll start posting smaller images. You have a lot of great points, as well as the ones in your journal, so I have some great information to consider the more I work on these. I'm a perfectionist and aim to improve, so any critique is well received. Appreciate you taking the time for the long write-up and I'll do my best to post better images the more I learn and practice.

youre definetly on a great path for the near future Jeff

Hmm... I wonder if you can change surfaces light reflection/refraction values in Bryce...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aeires In reply to Prometeus [2005-01-27 02:41:05 +0000 UTC]

Actually you can. There are a lot of specifications, of which specularity (how much light is reflected), reflection, and refraction are part of. Sometimes I drop the specularity to keep light sources from spotting a surface.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Prometeus [2005-01-26 22:05:50 +0000 UTC]

Whoa, so many reflections... In my opinion, that overcharges the image.

I would suggest to use more opaque surfaces rather, like those semi-opaque/semi-reflective surfaces (chromium-plated surfaces, perhaps?)

You made a good election in the colors.
