Here is my first completed model of 2013! This is the Tamiya 1/48 scale Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat. The kit went together like a dream and I would highly recommend Tamyia kits.Overall I'm quite happy with how this build turned out. I used Tamiya paints to paint the blue on this model and it seemed to go on quite nicely after thinning the paint. As for the decals I had a bit of a problem with them going on over the detail in a few areas. Hopefully as I learn more I'll get better at putting them on in areas like that. The antenna is a piece of string painted with metallic aluminum paint.
I will be starting the next build tonight or tomorrow, its an 1/72 scale Academy A-10A Thunderbolt II.

Nicely done. Nice early war markings. The red dot was eliminated in spring of 1942, for obvious reasons.

Looks really good! In the past I have used a decal set solution from Micro-scale. There are others out there that may work better for you. I have learned that if you spray a clear gloss on the model, set the decals and then finish it with a clear matte or flat finish the decals seem to be painted on. Thanks for the link! I'm going to have to try something like that out sometime. With this model I gloss coated, added the decals, glossed over again and then flat coated it. Its better creates better results then i have had in the past, but the Micro-scale stuff might be the best route to go or with something similar.

Glad I could help. I am learning a lot of new stuff getting ready to start making models again. I am starting with a Lindberg ME262 model, it was cheap and if I mess it up, I won't care. LOL

Yeah cheap models are good for that, they are also good to experiment with. I'm building a cheap 1/72 A-10 and I'm going to experiment a little! Good luck with the ME262!

Got to get the airbrushes working. The one I bought in ebay is missing a part. It isn't expensive, just annoying that I have to get a part. I think I amm going to get another airbrush anyway. I did start on the 262, got just a little done and am remembering why I am not thrilled with Lindberg kits. LOL

Pilots preferred the 4 gun F4F-3(?) to the -4's, because of the increased ammunition per gun as well as the fact that the increased weight of the 6 guns decreased maneuverability.
