Description How do you escape a fallen world filled with burdens, cares and despair?

By seeing it through the eyes of a child, viewing everything around you with the wonder and delight of the ultimate adventure of life...seeing with eyes from days long past when everything still held the promise and potential of what may be.

That's what makes children so wonderful; they view the world with innocent wonder, and everything they see is magical. Absolutely beautiful, Tari. Well done!

It is something I try and do everyday. It is hard sometimes because as adults we are so tainted by this world. My husband and I still find time to "play" together, though. The other day we crept into an old building to explore it, and pretended zombies were chasing us.

Thalia-Dawnbringer In reply to Aeltari [2010-07-31 17:16:05 +0000 UTC]

Zombies...?! Yikes, I have a thing about them, very creepy.

There's something about growing up that makes us eventually lose the "ability" to see the magic in reality. I suppose it's because we learn more about the world around us, and everything becomes logical - as children, we are easily dazzled by a simple magic trick, but as adults, we're rarely impressed.

Aeltari In reply to Thalia-Dawnbringer [2010-07-31 18:20:28 +0000 UTC]

I agree. Which is why we play, to keep it alive to remember those magics we once accepted and loved. They are still there, they have just been veiled slightly

Thalia-Dawnbringer In reply to Aeltari [2010-07-31 18:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Very true, Tari.

I like to think that magic has a sort of veil over it that children can easily see through. When we mature into adults, we lose that ability since we now view the world through logic and reason; however, adults who keep their imagination alive and vivid are able to hold onto that special sight, even though some of the magic has been closed off.

I have had several experiences that only a child has been able to understand. Because I have 'the sight' there have been numerous times I have seen things and noticed that little beans in the area also saw. Once when I was in Rome I saw a child talking to a strangely dressed man. Thinking it was a period costume actor I watched for a moment smiling. The boy's mother came over and asked me what I was looking at, and when I told her what I saw she went a bit pale and said 'so it is true, he does see things...what do I do with that?'. I am glad I was able to tell her to encourage him to write, draw or otherwise record everything he saw and experienced and not be afraid of it even though its creepy as the 9 hells when those around you see things you dont. Sadly lots of kids lose the ability to see the other side as they grow up.

Wow, that's an amazing experience ! Do you think the man the boy was talking to was an actor...or a spirit? For me, "the sight" works a little differently than what it did when I was young. Sometimes I look at something - like a simple chunk of old glass - and when I look at it in a different light or direction, I see or feel something very different from what other people do. It's like I can't really see through the veil as well as I used to, but when the magic is very strong, it uses my vision to project something about it. That's how I get my inspiration for writing fantasy, whether as a story or a poem. Sometimes I think I can see things like what you saw, but not as much.

You might be slipping the time stream! That is so awesome! If you can somehow train it, hone it...you will be able to look at old buildings, old artifacts and see them as they once were. I do that a lot so living in a town with lots of old stuff is heaven for me. That is why I adore vintage clothing and only shop at those places. The imprints left behind on them are just lovely stories waiting to be told.

Thalia-Dawnbringer In reply to Aeltari [2010-08-01 18:03:33 +0000 UTC]

Slipping the time stream...that is quite possible. That might explain why I sometimes "view" a scene in my head when I see something - like an old house or a pretty rock. I'm not sure how I could hone it - or if it will develop - but I hope it still stays with me as I get older; I would hate to lose it.

Aeltari In reply to Thalia-Dawnbringer [2010-08-02 19:16:06 +0000 UTC]

I do not know how to hone it...its just something I would DO constantly. Eventually the ability is there when you need it. This gives me the ability to see things in a different way...the nasty old houses around here are not truly nasty just unloved. I like seeing them the way they were. It is even more fun when a spirit or two shows up.

I do not do much with children, but they are really fun to work with. You can do such sweet things that would not work as well with an adult model.
