Of course, these Shao Khan and Sub-Zero characters are "excellent!"(c)
But I have one question: you did intend to draw them in anthropomorphic way, right? As far as I know, wolves and dogs can't fold their arms like human do.

Aen-Riv In reply to Cyrax-LK4D4 [2009-12-20 15:40:41 +0000 UTC]

Dunno.. maybe I'm still an amateur in canine physiology I did intend to make him a little human-ish so to say, so I added a gesture that a wolf or a dog wouldn't do like that.

But I was trying to do something like this: [link] - with a little more... folding.. to arms.

And thanks

Two sides of the same coin in a way. It's a good idea and defintly good for the younger subby to have to many people trying to kill him to make him erm... cutesy sweet and a genral drip like most goody goody characters.

Brothers do seem to have one thing in common - grandmastership in clans of their own They just can't live without Lin Kuei :3 Wonder what will Sareena do when and if Noob-Zero gets his humanity back :3

kazumitsu In reply to Aen-Riv [2009-12-20 19:26:13 +0000 UTC]

If she starts to go demon again I think those two ill hook up. The only thing thats stopping them from being a cople again is the fact Sareena is trying to be good and human like she looks.

Everyone seems to want to pair up Subby the younger with Sareena but the brothers when depicted in the storylines are very diffrent even before one went demon. Sareena wouldnt want a goodygoody.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aen-Riv In reply to kazumitsu [2009-12-20 19:40:01 +0000 UTC]

Dunno about what Sareena would want - there's not enough information on her as a full-fledged character. Midway has just began to fill us in on her past and such. Maybe she feels obligated to help the younger one out as a courtesy to the older one who saved her once. Like a.. family thing, you know, people taking care of their in-laws Even though they were not married or even engaged anytime along the lines of MK: Mythology Besides, those two do have something in common, and that is to save Noob from his demonic whatever thing. Aaah, maybe that's the reason Nooby got jealous and wants to kill his little brother It feels like one of those soap-operas now...

And ofcorse now I get to read about them properly I am starting to like the games again and i'm going to have to dig them up from somewhere.

I used to sit there with my notebook and a pencil, beating Shao Kahn countless times with ALL fighters, getting those biographies and endings written down. Because I didn't have any cheat codes, computers, or access to the Internet back then. And then I would rewrite everything into a cleaner and fatter notebook, in different colors (matching the fighters), in the most calligraphic writing I was capable of. And now it's a mere history and a shred of nostalgia because now I can get any bio I want at any time by just typing few words into Google. And I can get any screenshots and renders I want from any version of the game, without having to take pictures with a photo-camera (which would make these weird horizontal lines on the pictures.. because of the frequency and other electronics nuances...).

And as I learned more with newer versions of game, I was becoming more and more like "what the heck were they smoking in their Midway, CA?" You know.. too many different endings and you would have to guess which of them would be canonical. And that "We now pronounce you Noob-Zero" deal - I battled that in my mind for a long time. But I guess I became apathetic to that change. I was just trying to keep my main and biggest fan-fiction book within the canon lines, but that move kinda screwed a nice chunk of my plot. Moreover, I already had something that I simply cannot take back and say I never wrote it. But that's just.. you know.. stupid fan emotions getting in the way of the progress

I can always surrender to Stockholm Syndrome and start treating all that ridiculous mess like an ingenuous plan. I can even see something tragically romantic in what happened to Noob. The guy has fallen in love with a demon, had some brain in his head, lost his love (which was, as usual, Quan Chi's fault, and was probably a part of the chain of events that led him to the Dark Side), probably watched his little brother betray the clan that he himself respected and adored, and the list goes on. I won't risk my life to be his personal psychiatrist, but I've gotta admit, somebody needs a seriously big cozy hug.. or even a snuggle. I can even ignore the fact that Noob is just "Boon" and "Tobias" reversed thus making a character look like a joke. But hey, Ermac also emerged as an "Error Macro" glitch. And out of a glitch, we have a multitude of souls made into one loyal subject who is not a stranger to definitions of benevolence, compassion, empathy, and nobility (I'm talking about this Kenshi deal. Ermac understood how the blind swordsman felt and what was the right thing to do, even though he served Shao Kahn for so many years). There are some positive things I can dig out of this creative brain-fart byproducts of Midway team.

But Frost is still a stupid ditsy of an apprentice. And Kabal is an idiot.. wasn't he helping Special Forces and joining Earthrealm Chosen Warriors earlier? Why the heck is the change of heart? And with some characters, there's a time in game business when you'll have to cut of the loose ends for the sake of development and avoidance of overloading the game with The-Characters-Who-Just-Can't-Stay-In-Their-Graves. Liu Kang (enuff is enuff), Johnny Cage, Goro, other mutants, Kano... I mean, Just leave them be, invent other races, produce better fighters, have Kitana and Lui finally make babies for God's sake and let them kids be the Chosen ones, if there's nothing else to be done. Give Mileena her darn face, I'm sick of that "I wanna be pretteh liek mah pseudo-sis!" obsession. What about bringing Kitana's Dad back to life, huh? I don't think Elders will survive the Amazonian reign of Edenia. Give them their friggin' king back. My... that's a lot of words... It's just that... the more characters they shove into each new game, the less time each character gets for quality development. And that's why I originally liked MK above all other games - it had such a detailed background and history for each character, and now it's getting ruined by the need to beat the deadline and kill us with their newer graphics but totally fail on the storyline. If I wanted to play a darn "lifeless" fighting, I'd play Tetris. MK had a life because its kombatants were vividly described, like reading a story as opposed to playing figurines without anything to add to them except their names and aliases.

Now I've got the Shaolin Monks, and I still have to get my hands on PS3 and MKvsDC somehow. Monks seem to be boring... after many, many hours of playing, I've gotten sick of Edenia and the Living Forest. I mean, those stupid riddles are getting me nowhere interesting, and I don't want to use the walkthrough guide. But I like the Monks' gameplay better than what they incorporated into Armageddon. Except for Star Wars: KOTOR, I despise games that don't allow your character to jump, and that's exactly what both Deception and Armageddon lack.

It's something alot of these things lack now. My friends are the normal types of fans who would play a game for gameplay only ant not be intested in the storylines. On the other hand I almost live on storylines. Growing up around those people was damned hard. Everyone thinks if you look at something other than the pure gameplay your a freak of nature.

I couldnt use the notebook thing myself as it's only recently that my writeing is at any kind of ledgeable stage. I'm seveerely dyslexic. I used to draw though.

In a way it is a good thing that midway went bankrupt because the games series is completely dead. It means there is no more messing and fans can fill in gaps. Unfortunately it means theres less fans as no new people are drawn into the games.

Maybe it takes decent writers to fill in the gaps and what isnt written people can fill in for themselves like the story you wrote with Scorpion and Sonya. I can see alot more chapters of that in russian than I can english and unfortunately I cant read russian. Know any good translaters?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aen-Riv In reply to kazumitsu [2009-12-22 03:40:30 +0000 UTC]

Regarding my fiction - Russian version has more chapters only because DA converts all non-Latin encoding into sort of numeric encoding that takes up 5times more space than English. It's something like &#### for each letter. So I had to cut a normal English language chapter into two-three chunks of Russian version text. So, you didn't miss out on anything yet I translate my own chapters into English right after I'm done cleaning up the Russian part, and I will usually have both versions uploaded at the same time

About notebook - forget being dyslexic, English was like.. my third language? Or second, since I consider Russian to be my first and foremost, because I knew Spanish only till I was 4, and then I forgot all of it. I did attend a school that was English-oriented from the first grade onwards, but a lot of words were new to me, since I was still just a 7th-grader or something like that. And some of the words those biographies have are not used in a common every-day speech also. So, I only had my basic English knowledge and a knowledge of how to write English letters and pronounce most of the words (phonetics rules and such). I had to look back onto the screen after each two-three words I copied into the notebook. And tehn I would sit on my bed with a huuuuge dictionary. And you gotta remember that dictionaries used for literature will not include anything close to dirty language and some sort of mystical and antique stuff. So I only got to know what those extra words meant when I either asked my Mom's Canadian and American colleagues, or had a chance to go to the Internet club (when I was 15-16 already, yeah).

When I was 16, I entered a fun community called MK: Russian Portal. Almost all of the all-timers there were into biographies and storyline. I might be partially wrong, but I will state that whoever tends to write a fan-fiction about anything, will most likely to be the one to dig into that kind of stuff - bios and plots I mean. For a person who is only interested in graphics and killing time fighting something, fan-fiction would be of no interest (I mean, writing ff). Taht kind of person could be more into graphics than into writing. I am, as sad as it is, both

Ah good nice to know your atleast getting the other languige done at the same time for people that want to read the Russian. I do tend to like a bit of both as well. I like working with the unreal engine and createing maps but I like the unreal storyline as well.

Atleast you found a russian community for it as it seems all dyslexic people other than a very few tend to fixate on pop groups and such.

It's hard to find out the information you want if you litrealy cant get the information you want. i'm kind of glad I actuay lerned to read properly as I could finaly do geeky stuff that the geek side of my personalaty wanted me to do.

If you keep up the hard work, you'll be rid of that dyslexic thing in no time! It's good you have determination

The Russian community we had.. aaah, it was the best and the most organized Russian MK fan-community on the Web, and that's no subjective opinion - that's truth. Until some crap happened and it all collapsed.

So, what does your geeky side do? I mean, what do you do with it?

What's the unreal engine (I know they've built latest MK on it, that's graphics and rendering related) looks like? do you like.. create creatures there in 3D or what?

What fandoms are you into?

kazumitsu In reply to Aen-Riv [2009-12-22 22:01:36 +0000 UTC]

I create maps I create the intire landscape of a scene like in the mortal kombat games it would be the backdrop. In arena shooters theres more work that has to go into it as you can normaly get into every nook and cranny so everything heas to look good from what ever angle you see it at.

The unreal engine is the engine used for every unreal game so far and was brought out by Epic games. One of my other fandoms is unreal and unreal tornament. So far the new engine looks amazeing and though it didnt do the DC heros any favors but it did do alot for the Mortal Kombat lot. Even Subby looked like he really was top notch.

Erm... Legacy of Kain, Quake, Doom, Unreal, Tekken, Stargate, House, Farscape, Starship Troopers(much prefer the book and animated series)

I'm even planneing though this will be very tough a Mortal Kombat and House crossover. It will be difficlt but I think I can manage it.

House is fun

Wow, seems like you have tons of work to do with those landscape designs. Do you have any renders to show off yet? I agree that a good scenery has to look good from all angles, not like you get into some spot and everything starts glitching or looking weird.

Out of all listed, what's your favorite fandom? I'm familiar with most of them, save for the last two mentioned. Legacy seems to be quite graphic and interesting, but I never played it. I don't know why, but it somehow reminds me of Devil May Cry (though I never played this one too, just watched). Did you play the latest Tekken? Is it any good? I think the last one I played was Tekken 2 or something

Yeah, MK characters benefited from the engine. And they eyes move funny - all those expressions they make, it was just hilarious Liu Kang cocking his eyebrow and twitching his eyes.. that was priceless

FaceX plugins alow for alot of good face movements.

At the moment i'm kind of focused on MK at the moment. Legacy of Kain isnt really like Devil May Cry it does tend to get the same fans to a point but in my opionion it's much smarter. It has a plot of timetraval that goes right though it and one of the main things about the plot is the question of how much free will does someone really have. It's very intesting and very... well it gets odd but fun though the last game was a bit of a dissapointment as they screwed around with the camra to much.

Oh Tekken I got to about four before I gave up. I needed something with more to it in terms of character development at that point.

And yes House rules.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aen-Riv In reply to kazumitsu [2009-12-22 22:58:33 +0000 UTC]

I'll have to try Legacy sometime. As well as DMC, I think my brother had it for PS2 somewhere. It would be interesting to learn if there's anything new to time-travel topic aside from what movies have shown.

I've played Gauntlet for like.. 6-10 times trying out different ways of character development in terms of spells and skills. But there is no individual biography or plot for the fighters - just an arcade with four classes of fighters following the main plot, and that's about it. Nothing specific in the end. I just had to kill some time But generally, anything that ends like that - with no story before or after the game, gets me bored fast.

The legacy of Kain series is actualy five games long. It can be very confuseing if you havent played all of them. It could be nice to add in a story maybe but much of the time it probably isnt worth it with a game like that with nothing in the way of story.
