Description
Yama's surprise was certainly loudest, but Taeya could see it in the eyes of her entire family. Shock. Horror. Anger. Taeya didn't dare try and meet any of their eyes, her mother's least of all.
Hani wanted to scream, beg her daughter to come with the rest of the family, or at the very least persuade her to choose a different path like her littermates, but in her heart she knew there was no point. Taeya was stubborn, nearly as stubborn as her father, and there was no changing her mind once it was made up. She choked back tears.
And it broke Yama's heart. This wasn't what he wanted to do- he wanted to go with his mother and siblings. He wanted to follow Elias to Old Aryn and live out the rest of his life as normally as possible. But the fear that now consumed his mother changed his mind. Athens and Bee were going off into the unknown together, making their own ways in the world while still having someone to watch their backs. But Taeya was going into the heart of one of Aryn's greatest enemies, alone. Even if they had been allies against the Hive there was no guarantee they wouldn't kill her the moment she entered their territory, or perhaps do much worse if she was actually accepted in.
No, this wasn't what Yama wanted to do at all, but he knew worry would plague every minute of the rest of their mother's life if Taeya did this alone. So he made his decision. His body shook horribly.
"I-I'll go with her Ma. I'll look after her, keep her out of trouble. Keep her safe. Promise promise." And the tears fell from Hani's fearful eyes. She was so angry. So proud. So scared. Two more children taking their own path in life. A sad smile spread across her face.
"Alright... if you're going to the swamps then... ask for Monty. He'll help. Tell him Hani says 'Hi'."

This is one piece in a very long line of things to come. Trust me, there will be more to flesh out the end of my characters' time in Aryn and how these two got to Vektren, but for now, know the decision was willingly made by Taeya.
