History
kithood | 0-6 ☾
Badgerkit and his brother, Hawk-kit, were born in the lake territories, to Stormcall and Snakestrike, though neither of the brothers really had a chance to know their father. Still, they only had about a moon of peace with their mother before tragedy struck the clans--first with SkyClan's illness, and then the drought and famine and spread of disease that came with it. Though the kits survived thanks to Stormcall's watchful eye and care, other kits in the nursery were not so lucky. At only three moons old, the clans decided that it was time to make the journey and leave the lake territories. Thankfully, three moons didn't exactly leave the brothers helpless, able to walk and pounce, but they lacked stamina. Only ever knowing ShadowClan camp, the rocky crags of the mountains were hard and sharp on their soft paws, earning them callouses quicker than any recent ShadowClan kits before them. Thankfully, Stormcall was always protecting them. Badgerkit was always grateful to be carried when he felt too tired to walk, and though he didn't understand why they were travelling, he only wished that it would end soon.
apprenticeship | 6-12 ☾
At six moons, the brothers earned their apprentice names and mentors--though Badgerkit didn't know the difference, the ceremony was rushed and abridged, as all the traditions the clans tried to keep seemed to be. It was hard to train on the journey, but hunting was an easy enough task that always had to get done. Badgerpaw didn't excel quite as well in that one as his slender, smaller brother seemed to. His mentor seemed to believe he would be better fit for battling, given his structure, but the words were hardly a comfort to a tom as meek as Badgerpaw, who let said smaller brother push him around. Despite difficulties, he still worked hard, and was grateful for every catch, especially when his stomach started to growl in protest.
Though Badgerpaw knew of his father, he had never spoken to him. Stormcall seemed to hold a great disdain for the tom, and if his mother didn't like someone, then Badgerpaw didn't need to either. Still, it was obvious even to the apprentice that Snakestrike had started to become a more regular figure in their lives again--a figure who always lurked a few fox-lengths behind, whose green eyes Badgerpaw could always feel boring into the thick fur of his neck. Even though it was his father, it was scary to always feel him watching and following, and Badgerpaw was that much clingier to his mother for it, hopeful that eventually the tom would give up and go away.
Badgerpaw never found out exactly how Snakestrike tumbled down the cliff during the journey, but a part of him was grateful. He could see the way he impacted his mother, even if he couldn't understand it. Her mood always seemed to drop into sorrow or anger when he was around, and Badgerpaw loved his mother enough to never want her to feel like that. There was guilt in knowing that he didn't truly mourn his father, but he felt safer when his family walked among the mountains without the feel of Snakestrike's eyes on them. However, though he had been sure this would improve his mother's mood, she seemed much worse for his death. Sad, mournful, lost. Badgerpaw did whatever he could to try and ease her pain, but what did a young apprentice know of this? All he could do was be there for her every step of the journey, and that was what he did.
When ShadowClan finally reached the territory, Badgerpaw couldn't have been happier. Their new marshlands looked beautiful--and felt like home, even though he couldn't say he remembered the marshes from his past well enough to compare. He felt a certain peace being here, and he hoped that his mother would feel the same. Stormcall, Hawkpaw, and himself were all safe, and with their new leader and their new land, he truly hoped his family could have a fresh start and his mother could find the happiness she seemed to be missing.Personality
+
empathetic :: though many have trouble putting themselves in other's pawsteps, it comes easily for badgerpaw--almost too easily. he can find something good in anyone and nurse any small pity he may have for them until they're good in his eyes, though his father seems to be one exception. on his first hunt, he couldn't even bring himself to kill his prey, pitying their sad life's end and releasing them.
gentle :: a gentle giant, badgerpaw has a soft touch that goes against his namesake's nature. he likes physical affection, and finds it seems to soothe others as well as it soothes him. he likes sharing tongues and grooming, and never hurts others if he can avoid it.
obedient :: if you ask badgerpaw, the warrior code, as well as other rules, were put in place for a good reason, and it's not his, or any cat's place to question them. he is an absolute stickler for the rules, and he's terrified enough of the consequences of breaking them that he doubts he ever will.
=
meek :: badgerpaw, despite his size, seems to speak softly and gentle at all times, and rarely raises his voice. this tends to make him rather passive, and a bit of a doormat to others, but he's also never one to create issues or arguments.
solemn :: the gravity of the journey over the mountains has taken a lot of the whimsy of kithood and apprenticeship away from badgerpaw, and he tends to be very serious in nature. he also seems to lack a sense of humor, but not in the sense that he's bitter--simply that jokes go right over his head no matter how hard he tries to understand them.
deep :: not only does badgerpaw take things to heart, he seems to constantly be thinking, and considers the consequences of everything. he wonders about big-picture type things and frets about worries that should be far from his mind--and while that sort of thinking can sometimes be helpful, it isn't, more often than not.
-
self-doubt :: badgerpaw has lived his life with his amazing, strong mother, and his fast, agile, and sharp brother. though the two clearly have different strengths, badgerpaw can't help comparing himself to hawkpaw and taking the comparison badly. he doesn't really see his own strengths, and needs help realizing them.
cowardly :: despite the fact that he could easily hold his own if he tried, badgerpaw is often downright cowardly. if something makes him uneasy or fearful, that's hard to shake, and even the most unbelievable of kit's tales can shake him to his core. in open ground, he finds his eyes glancing at the skies in fear of large birds, and though he's never seen one in person, badgerpaw has had plenty of vivid nightmares about twolegs before. logic isn't always enough to comfort him when he gets into that state.
cold :: if badgerpaw decides he doesn't like you--which is rare, and only really applicable so far to snakestrike--he can be quite cold. still not one for harsh words or actions, badgerpaw will shun you. he can blank someone completely if he tries hard enough, though not to the point where it would get in the way of clan duties.Other Information:
- Although Badgerpaw isn't interested in forgiving his father, he does wonder what his mother's past with him was like. However, it's purely down to both general curiosity, and hopes that knowing the truth can help his mother.
- He is very fond of flowers and other flora, somewhat sad that ShadowClan's territory doesn't have a lot of it.

from before the reboot!
The rain seemed fitting, considering the news Wildfire knew that Beetlestar was going to deliver to the clan. It was strange to think that only four cats in the camp knew what he was going to announce--just Beetlestar, Blueflower, himself, and wherever Wolfheart was. He felt like he looked smaller in the rain, the water weighting down the fluffier bits of his fur and making everything cling to his form, making him feel small by comparison. He stayed close to Blueflower, pressing his pelt against hers and drawing in a shaky breath. It was impossible to deny that he was nervous.
On the other hand, it was also impossible to deny that Beetlestar looked genuinely majestic on the Thornstone, so much so that Wildfire felt his breath catch at the sight of him. He could tell that Beetlestar was shaking, but he had so much faith in his best friend as a leader, he was sure that his nerves wouldn't stop him. The ginger tom leaned into Blueflower more as he looked at him, keeping his muzzle close to her ear so he wouldn't be overheard. "Helooks like a leader, don't you think?"
He managed to tear his eyes away from Beetlestar for a moment to glance around the camp, letting his eyes linger on the cats who had gathered. Duskstripe was here, as well as his apprentice, Blackpaw--and his former mentor Crowtint was sat at attention as well, beside his new mate and his new apprentice. He felt nerves prickle through his skin again, sure his fur would be standing on end if it wasn't for the rain. What would Crowtint think? What would any of the cats in their clan think...? Wildfire swallowed harshly, ears twitching nervously as he looked back towards Beetlestar and pressed his pelt closer to Blueflower.
