I actually thought this was a traditionally done piece at first; as was already mentioned, it's got a certain watercolour-like look to it that's pretty awesome. 8D

Thanks! I think a lot of the watercolor effect comes from the colors and especially the texture - it's one of Hibbary's watercolor textures. I've been meaning to make some of my own textures for a while so that I can get the specific effects I want.

Hehe, sorry. I do love watercolors though. I've been meaning to pull my paints out for ages, but haven't gotten around to it. Sigh.

Thanks! A lot of this was playing with texture and adjustment layers. Textures can go a loooong way in giving a digital painting a more traditional and less.. 'digital art' feel. Practicing is the best.

Ive been having the same troubles with digital painting too lol. Its just sooo damn different than painting on canvas. I have a hard time transferring my pen and ink style to normal painting too. Anyway i think this piece is awesome. Great lighting and perspective.

Thanks! (oh god belated replies)
Yeah, that's the thing - the technique is SO different from traditional painting. I took best to more impressionistic styles in which I could just mix colors on the canvas, so all the layering and patience involved in digital painting has been hard to get used to. What I've been doing is absorbing tutorials and process posts by artists whose style I like, and then just practicing. It takes lots of patience.
