Description As I said with my first 3/4 view practice, I needed to go back and practice a standard side view a little more. I think I've just about nailed it this time! With this study, I chose to split my drawing so that certain aspects would be easier to see. If I posted the "All Components" column alone, the study would look like a jumbled mess.

Wow, pony structure study #10. If anypony's wondering why I'd post all of these it's because I like getting feedback from other artists, and if my studies are good enough they could help other artists. If I can help others while honing my skills at the same time, that would be awesome!

I'll slowly work on some more advanced pieces that aren't just studies. I say "slowly" because my classes have resumed. That's not a bad thing though, I'm in my 3rd academic year of college and I'm diving into everything animation!

Yay!

I know this picture is old, but I really have to thank you because it kinda helped me draw ponies by hand for the first time! (And by that I looked at this picture as a reference, lol. I didn’t trace your picture though.)

Here are the finished pieces that I drew thanks to this:

ok so if I'm getting this right. The head is a circle that has equal length from top to bottom. If you cut the top left quadrant in half, the cut will lead to the tip of the unicorn horn. if you cut the bottom left quadrant into thirds, the first cut will lead to the tip of the nose. Is X the center of gravity?

Pretty much yes. The X could be the center of gravity, I didn't think of that; I use the X to mark distance. I'm still doing some tweaking, but these are the measurements I'm using:

-Head divided into quarters
--Top left quadrant bisector used for horn placement
--Top right quadrant bisector used for ear placement
--Bottom left quadrant is divided into quarters, bisected twice for muzzle placement; I just didn't draw the third line
--The horizontal marks can be viewed as bisectors, but I use them as 1/4 marks for the height of the head (though they're a little off); I use these 1/4 marks to help with eye placement

-Body is 2/3 of a head in height
--Neck is slightly less than 1/2 of a head thick
---Throat starts just behind head 1/2 mark
---Back of neck is tangent to back of head
--Body length is LOOSELY 1.25 heads
--- I don't use a concrete measurement for the length of the body anymore; I find that using two guide circles who overlap slightly works much better

-Legs are 1 head in height
--Hooves are about 1/2 of a head thick/wide
---I'm still tweaking legs, I still see that they're a little off in this study

I'm still refining structure, but I'm getting there. I'm always open to tips from others.
