When coming up with this, I thought of the song by Tarja Turunen as a solo. Oh, how I love her. And I love Jean Grey of the X-Men ^^
I can't believe how far I've gotten. I wanted something to symbolise reaching a milestone. I've been keeping track. This is to celebrate my deviation counter reaching 500. A phoenix can be a symbol of anything. As the creature is known ignite itself and then rise from ashes, it can't die. In honesty, I don't know what part of me the phoenix represents. Maybe, like the phoenix, art can't die. With ideas that don't perish, something grows. And if there's something to get rid of, one can start anew.
I put some thought into this. I wanted to be accurate with the bird's anatomy and stance. I like to think it's content with the closed eye. I wanted the shoulder of the wing aligned with the beak. There are quite a few interpretations of the creature. I tried making the neck long, and I wanted the tail to be long and thin. As colour of fire varies, I used various shades, and muttered, "I'll need everything I got." The bane in the process of making it, was that my pencils kept breaking.
I also want to take this moment to mention my old friend, Deanna. Her birthday was today. She was a great supporter of my projects when we were in high school. That's why I loved her. I hope she's been keeping well. Remember: Follow your heart, follow your dream.
I did practice runs to get the concept. It was all improvised. I didn't use a normal pencil or pen, to avoid lines. I coloured using pencil crayons, markers, and cheap oil pastels. I was drinking iced tea and listening to Nightwish: Once. My estimate is that I took 63 minutes, start-to-finish.
I would much appreciate feedback.
