Description IMPORTANT: For ANY use of this image ask the permission to ARTe CLUSTER PROJECT (artecluster@online.de ).
I made this painting for a project about Cluster Headache (for info en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_… .
I was contacted by Al.ce Cluster Europe www.cefalea.it/index.php?optio… to create this piece of art for it to be exposed in their art gallery dedicated to such disease.
The coordinator of the forementioned association, Claudio Geraci, requested some paintings for him about the topic, where as the first painting was the burden, this is the pain.

The pain and utter chaos and intensity of the cluster headache is clearly reflected in the one-sided chaos and black agony ripping out of the other side of the head. The struggle to stay coherent in the middle of all this is also displayed. The thick red paint streaking out of the left eye is a harsh reminder of the pain. And the red paint makes the black and white seem harsher and isolates the screaming face from the black void around it.

I also like how initially, at the top, the black fingers are random and flailing, but towards the chin, the lines are stiff and linear. The face just popping out of the black streaks looks like it could be whipped away into the black stream in an instant and is fighting to stay alive.

All that can be interpreted from this painting without ever having known or experienced "The Pain of Cluster Headache". This painting is a moving and masterfully done work.

It's amazing. A brief opinion: I think it would be great if it had more little details. I know how wxplosive, intense and strong emotions all of your paintings have. But i think it would be amazing if you tried to detail more the explotions of emotions on your paintings in such way that i seemes more... profound. Try to give life to your explotions in such way that they have something to SCREAM as well! To say. I know you could easily do it if you tried it. You're amazing and I admire you and respect you really strongly.

A cluster headache is already enough to scream about. The screaming face almost obscured by the black mass around it which has black paint lancing outwards with a rigidity, but also with a chaotic flailing, seems to convey this. On top of that, the way the majority of the passion and emotion is primarily on the left side of the face is accurate with the one-sided head pain that typically defines a cluster headache.

Are little details really necessary? Its a painting of a headache, not the sun glinting off someone's hair whilst he or she sits in a meadow.

Any more, and the painting might risk being overdone.

The first thing that strikes me about this piece, is the fact that the chaos seems to originate from the subjects head - not the mouth where we get the auditory stimulation. This is an incredibly accurate depiction of how the most noise can come from the mind - not the mouth. This is simply my interpretation, but I like the way the subject seems to be either sinking back into the chaos or being sucked back by it. It is eclipsing the eyes of the subject (which tend to be important focal points in emotional pieces) and it shrouds the piece in mystery. The red makes the chaos seem more severe and, in a way, more human because of the way the color could be paralleled with blood. Overall - an incredible piece. As always.

I want to say that the first thing I got out from this work was EMOTION. The agony, fear, madness - all found within this work beautifully done simply with minimal use of color. I also can "hear" this person screaming, making this work more intriguing to look at for a longer period of time.
I also really enjoy the haphazard use of strokes in the work, giving the painting more texture. Even though the person's eyes aren't as clearly defined as the rest of their face, the execution of creating emotion for the person makes up for it. Overall, I really enjoyed viewing this piece; the color is simple, technique is nicely executed, and emotion is easily found within.
I am curious to see what this artist can do in the future; their work is beautiful and they take much care in what they create.

immediately i felt the emotion in this piece. i can almost hear the scream. i do enjoy the minimalism, and the lines look almost effortless. there is nothing forced about this work. the simplistic play on color choice really defines the moment and clearly adds a harshness to the contrast from the light background. I see depth although it is not implied and it makes me want to understand the story more clearly. aside from all the positive notes, i find very little negatives. all i can critique is the chance that to some this may look unfinished. this could easily be fixed by playing with the canvas. next time maybe even consider doing a painting on a piece of wood. by doing this you are given a background where you are able to play with shading and the natural texture from the wood itself. in my humble opinion, i truly do think this piece is complete. incredible work, i genuinely see a bright future with your art.

Very good work!

As soon as I saw it, I realized that this is a picture of pain. Its name just confirmed my assumption. So, the picture accurately conveys the state of the world, and it is most important in a work of art, from my point of view. In black flashes I saw an explosion of pain. In the red spots I saw pulsing blood. And in the white leaks I saw something very concentrated... perhaps, it was despair. Therefore, the work can be recognized as a very successful.

If you set a goal to write a critical note, I would like to draw attention to the image of the mouth. This is the only place that put me into some objections. In my view, its perspective a little bit wrong. Perhaps this is due to the fact that distant part is made more distinct and darker than the front edge. Therefore, it seems that it gets out to the front. Also, I agree with Keytan about the fact, that the eye could be more detailed. But it's all the little things.

I really enjoyed the video of work creation and learned some things while viewing.

Best Regards.

I love watching the video's of you working. It brings this whole other level of beauty to the painting when you watch its creation. The fact that you can do one in less than a day is amazing. I love that your work always has so much passion, so much emotion in the face that it always leaves you wanting more. It's beautiful and gripping work.
I appreciate your attention to detail with the subtle pen work at the end, it doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference but viewing the completed piece it really ties in the abstract with the solid.
I also really like how you never use TOO much color in your pieces like this one, there is enough to create a dramatic effect but the color still takes a back seat and doesn't drag the eye away from the painting as a whole.
One thing I would have liked in this painting is to see more detail go into the expression of the eyes. They sort of just turned into blobs and I think with a piercing stare this painting would have been all the more powerful.
My only harsher critique is that I would love to see you grow more as an artist and try new techniques. I’ve been watching your gallery for quite some time and though the work varies quite a bit, there is still always the same tone to your black and white’s and same technique used. I’m sure if you expanded your horizon in that respect you would master anything.

I hope this is helpful to you and I look forward very much to seeing more of your work

I want to say first, I enjoy your water color work so much. you've created a style that I have been striving for the past few years.

You've captured the emotion beautifully. The sporadicness of the brush strokes is amazing. I love the contrast between the very harsh brush strokes and the almost realistic rendering of the face...

I also really enjoy the pop of red it adds a nice touch in contrast with black and also adds to the extremely agony of this piece. The dripping white also adds a nice touch. it allows you to think more into the piece rather than assume she is bleeding from the eye or something because the drips are not red.

really nice work, I hope to see a lot more from you.

Those painful moments in a cluster attack, fits perfectly your work, the amazing facial expression, your colour composition.
Your work is really impressive and in a way frightening...
I like most, the red colour covering the brain, and the white/ grey / slight blue coloured tears down the eye.
This "Silent Scream" make it possible, to feel, to imagine in a slight way, the pain, someone with this disease, have to feel.
Although I believe, that a normal person, without this disease, can't empathize with this extreme pain, even worse than giving birth.
Well done !

First I'd like to say I've gone through your portfolio, and I admire your work greatly. From what I've seen you seem to have a knack for organizing chaos in each peice with your brush strokes. This particular piece evokes thought right away.

I like how loud this painting is, it demands to be listened to which I feel every artist aims for. Obviously the face is the first thing that draws attention. Two words that instantly come to mind is pain and sorrow. The feeling helplessness to stop what this person is feeling is the message I'm receiving. I don't know if it was placed on purpose or not but it looks like there's lightning in the eye? That and the running tears really compliment each other. The only thing I'm slightly confused with is what does the red symbolize? Aesthetically it is very pleasing. The black, white, and red make for a very dramatic piece. I just want to understand more.

Your vision and technique are both amazing so I gave 4 stars on both. I have not seen a painting similar to this one by any other artist, however, I feel like you are very comfortable with using these three colors and it shows in your portfolio so I gave you 3 stars. I'm looking forward very much to watching you improve and push your art style. I hope offered some help.

I read a critique on your page and someone said they felt like you might've inspired others. You have without a doubt inspired me to push myself. I respect and admire you very much, thank you.

I love this because it differs from your other work! It is very expressive and explosive, and captures the anger or maybe pain in the person's face. I love the style you use with the black paint; how panicked it looks. And the red just completes it. Its very different than alot of your other work, with it's aggressive strokes and dripping. One of my favorites! It is hard to find anything wrong with this painting. It really allows you to feel the emotion in the painting and to connect with it.

You are one of my biggest influences in art, and one of my only influences. thank you for this wonderful piece!

RED and Black have always been a Good Choice to describe topics of internal turmoil and Pain. To depict Pain of Enormous proportions with a limited pallet Shows the true craft of a MASTER. I love the concept of the Models Skull exploding and blood and grey matter spewing form it, clearly is an example of the Phrase "A Splitting Headache".

PS: I have seen the Youtube video as well and all I can say is a feat for the EYES. Truly Wonderfully Inspiring and Gorgeous.

I wish I can draw as Courageously as you do...

Keep moving Forward. Regards.

I love your work, I could watch it all day - that s a fact. Now days you ave to search for an critiquable work like for 20 minutes, but when it comes to your art every piece is worth taking some time. So, yes this is wonderful, realy well done. The face itself reminds me of a picture of Bob Marley, kinda brilliant job done there. The hair nd all other details are fiting the project s concept. Just the technique itself deserves a high rating, but the end product tops everything. Realy, i wouldn t be suprised if ya read somethere that other artists have found inspiration coz of your artwork.

As much as I love the message and the idea you are attempting to portray, I feel like the face is a little bit lost in the surrounding chaos; which I should note, represents the pain and anguish of cluster headaches brilliantly, through your use of aggressive brush strokes.

Firstly, I'd suggest trying a 50/50 mixture of brown and blue rather than pure black - this could give the piece a bit more of a bite and more depth. And you could maybe use a higher ratio of red to create a deep, dark, purple-ish tone.

Secondly; possibly starting on a washy ground, perhaps a mid tone of red like you have in the top right to suggest layers in both the piece and the degrees of pain for suffers of such mysterious disease.

Good job nonetheless! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> I'm an admirer of your work

One of the critiques says " I feel like the face is a little bit lost in the surrounding chaos", but isn't that the point? Your own personality, sense of self can be lost amid such overwhelming pain.
I think it's great.

I'd really like to hang a big print of this in my home so I that maybe I wouldn't feel so alone with this everyday. This painting is really the best form of empathy I've encountered. Chronic headaches can be very isolating. I could go on about technique and colour, etc, but it's really so much larger than that. This imagery communicates directly to me. Thank you ... you've captured so many aspects of my 'brainfire' in this work.
