Description
So, finally finished another drawing!!And I've decided I will keep posting my traditional work here as well as my photography
This drawing was a first in many ways!
-It's the first portrait I've drawn (and taken my time on, not just a sketch or doodle)
-It's the first time I've drawn from my own photograph! (You can find it here:[link] )
-It's the first time I've drawn a horse I actually know (to top it off, this one used to be mine!)
All in all, I'm pleased with it.
I know it looks kinda rough (and even worse on here as it's A3 and I had to take a photo rather than scan it!), but for a first try at something new, on such a large scale, I think I did OK!
The main bit is that the horse is recognisable haha! That's always been my main worry about drawing a horse I know, and now that I have, I'm really glad he looks like himself haha!
please let me know what you think, and any areas I should work on?

Beautiful, you can really see this horse has a personality, hes not just a flat drawing on a peice of paper,
What were your tools? i need to get the old drawing pad out its been a while

I can't remember exactly, but I usually use B to 4B graphite pencils, so should be within that range

considering all the firsts it's rather blimmin' good!
It's a nice pose, unusual for a portrait being pretty square on.
Difficult to see close-up detail (I can't get it to enlarge?), but the puckering between the nostrils on the skin looks great, delicate work. Rich use of saturated shadow - which can be difficult to keep balanced in graphite (I always tend to work too light and then give up!).
Only thing to do is more of the same if you ask me!

I always upload compressed pics to dA as otherwise they take forever to upload. Slow internet is slow...

definitely use time whilst it's there... nothing worse than having to sit doing something else instead of drawing all day!!!

Absolutely beautiful! The backlighting is so striking, and you've drawn all those deep shadows very well. The muzzle has all those great wrinkles that gives it such a great texture.
