Allow me to shed some light on this matter, AidenDM .
Slow, you're referring to the fact that the colour of the soul changes, right?
These souls are each of the human souls, all representing something.Β
Red: Determination (Normal soul.)
Light Blue: Patience (Light blue is the colour of the attacks where you must stay still.)
Orange: Bravery (Orange is the colour of the attacks where you must be moving.)
Blue: Integrity (Soul colour during Papyrus/Sans Boss Battles, keeps you held down with gravity.)
Purple: Perseverance (Soul colour during Muffet's boss battle, also used as the colour for Karmic Retribution or KR damage, the damage type during Sans' battle.)
Green: Kindness (Green is the colour of attacks where you are healed, and the colour of your soul during Undyne's boss battle where you are still but have a shield.)
Yellow: Justice (Soul colour during Mettaton's boss battle, where you are able to fire small pellets to destroy projectiles.)
These souls are not simply used for the purpose of buffs and debuffs. They are the souls of the humans that fell before Frisk, and the colours of "Photoshop Flowey"'s attacks.

They don't presume you are a monster. They only want your SOUL so they can escape. That is why Asgore battles you at the end. If you win, you can take his soul and leave. If he wins, he can take your soul and shatter the barrier and avenge his son.

Well, he did it to avenge his son. Although I agree with you, the humans were responsible for the death of both of his children, Asriel and Chara (His adopted child, anyway.)
