Description Please Note: Just to bring it out in the open, yes, there are a couple of things in this art that may feel like a lack of detail is involved, but it was intentional for the style and lighting I was trying to achieve. So before you start berating me about them, know that I already know. ... thank you. XD

<=================================={}--------

There was a time when the northern realms knew prosperity well; when the great noble houses of Raleigh and Esther intermingled their bloodlines and so captivated even the more judicious of nelri lords from far away Ailyrenai to admit that beauty was not lost on humankind.

However, there were those among Esther’s descendants who felt out of place among the snow-covered plains of Raleigh’s rule. One such soul was Ryaine, eldest daughter of Raleigh King Rugal the First, and Estheran bred Queen Lynette. Blessed with her mother’s hair and her father’s fair skin, Ryaine’s beauty was a testament to the bond the two houses shared, although when she was ripe in age to breed, Ryaine rebelled against her noble family and seduced an unnamed captain among merchant fleets; coaxing him into smuggling her far from the eyes of her family.

For the most part, she succeeded in this quest. Ryaine, an unmarried princess still, travelled the length of the Baeren Sea and found warmer lands that were said to have welcomed the wild youth openly into their arms and there she learnt many things exotic that quenched her inflamed desires. So astray, Ryaine revelled in her new world and forgot herself in it.

Yet even with years absent from her homelands, Ryaine was not forgotten among them and was besotted with a traveller who claimed to be a peer from the very halls she left behind. So did Ryaine return close to them as a lover to Aeganis, a forefather lord of House Sineden; whose banners flew proudly in Raleigh lands. To her dismay, however, Aeganis swept her off her feet with the intent to sire a child through her that would sit her father's throne after his plot to overthrow it came to fruition. Thus did Ryaine become a prisoner of her love; forced to watch as her family’s lands fell towards war.

<========================================================={}--------

Wheee… and yet more lore for ye all to feast on. Fun times, anyway. This work was originally supposed to be of the zaira, Shaelyn, but the colours I would have worked with for her just didn’t exactly measure up in the end. So along came Ryaine; yet another historical character for my world… who I think I may flesh out, given time.

Anyhoo, if anyone’s interested, here’s the alternate coloured version for Shaelyn: [link]

I figure this doesn't need a mature rating either.

lol, to be honest I've always wondered what drawing in Paint would be like instead. I'm just so comfortable using PS now, though.

Once you get used to a certain program, its way easier to stick with it. Yet new programs might uncover new possibilities.

'Tis true. Although in my experience the more you stick with a certain program the more tricks you may learn from it. To me, even after all these years, I'm still learning new drawing techniques in photoshop.

Well... Nothing to say... Just that it's amazing... You deserve more favs
Can I ask you which programs you use to do it?

Thanks.

As for the program, I use Photoshop CS2 for pretty much all my work these days. Sometimes I look to a 3D imagining program like Poser to give me basic nude pose reference, so I can learn better anatomy at certain angles, but that's about it.

Here's hoping, and thanks. Makes me glad actually that some people can enjoy my work without picking them apart. Not that I don't mind critique, of course, as it has helped me on seperate occasions in the past. I just like equally the idea when I create something that doesn't need it.

Haha, well... truth be told, the next piece will probably be a considerable oldie from way back that I hadn't the nerve to finish it how I wanted, but it's been recluse long enough.

This reminds me of the covers I've seen to those "Kushiel's Dart" and whatnot books..... very love tattoo and I like the differences in detail and subtly and the softness to the sharpness in spots....nice tush too lol

Thanks.

lol, speaking of Kushiel's Dart, I only just finished the first book... although I've been meaning to draw a back perspective like this for ages and well before I even knew Carey existed as an author. That... and finally having an excuse to draw a nice tush. There, I said it. XD

Good, good. XD

Well, I can safely say they're good to read. The first book took a bit to get into at first, though. But once I got about midway, I've been picking up the pace. Now since I've hit the second book, I'm not satisified with myself unless I've read at least three chapters of it a day before I hit the hay.

Well, personally I think her skin is alright now, but I think the problem is in her hair. Maybe it was the effect you were going for, but the whole top part of the image looks very misted/faded. Especially considering her hair appears to be wet, I think it should have a lot more contrast. It looks dead :\

Other than that, I love the composition of this image, and her pose ^_^ I also love to read all the lore you write with each image.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Ilenora [2008-12-10 04:25:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Glad you like the lore especially. Few people really enjoy that side of my work, but I enjoy writing it immensely.

lol, and it was indeed the effect I was going for with the flatness of the hair (Think anime... ) and how the skin was originally. That's why it's not exactly up to par with what I usually draw in detail with said aspects. The style called for it.

Ilenora In reply to Aikurisu [2008-12-10 04:28:21 +0000 UTC]

Well, I like good stories, and yours sound excellent and well thought out.

Ah, I see. Well, it seems to me as though there is a mist floating around, so I guess that would make it very washed out anyway. Looks like she's in a bathhouse or something

Aikurisu In reply to Ilenora [2008-12-10 10:44:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, you're nearly right. In Raleigh’s lands, some of its lords had the small luxury of having their holdings built upon natural hot springs; regarded far greater than gold itself further to the north. Definitely favourable among ladies of their courts who were not native to them and found it hard to cope with the harsh elements. In this art’s case, Ryaine was probably undressing to soak in one, while looking out into the cold wilderness; wondering what fate awaits her parents and the kingdom she tried long to forget.

You should have included the tattoo on the silver-haired one. It would have added to her mystery (and her beauty). Truthfully, I am not a fan of the red hair. Try a different color? Light blue, perhaps?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Aikurisu In reply to LnknXer [2008-12-10 02:12:33 +0000 UTC]

lol, I'd be going against the lore of my world if I considered light blue hair for this chick.

And I had thought about giving Shae (the silver-haired one... ) the tatoo, but I felt it went against her look.

LnknXer In reply to LnknXer [2008-12-09 20:05:03 +0000 UTC]

I realized I didn't give a reason why I don't like it--it looks plain. The silver had a certain brightness to it, but the red is stale.

Phil has a point... tried fiddling the levels at all rather than contrast? Gives a bit more flexibility.

Cool pic all the same though, great work on her tattoo. Shall read the lore later, unfortunately this late at night my attention span is less then a sentence long

And bah, that's the third time I've changed this work tonight for sake of skin tone alone. How's it fair now? lol, I guess I could just put down the darker skin tone to lighting...

Well, as they say, love conquers all.

Still, what isn't told is that the story is at the crossroads, so to speak. Ryaine will either be the death of her kingdom or its saviour, as she's faced with the horrible decision of either standing by her love and watch her blood family fall by his hand, or kill him and possibly end the war in the process.
