Description Based on the Lovebird... but the Hii'gaan are a bit different, as my next image will prove.

I think these guys are cute, but someone told me that they were oddly disturbing. XD! Whatever, I like them.

EDIT: (Lots of added information...)

Species Name: Hii’gaan
Homeworld: Aanu’sil
Federation Status: Allied
Primary Class: Natural Avian
Intelligence Class: Self-aware; building species
Population Class: 50,000 or under
Lifespan: 68 Standard Years

Average Height of Adult: 2 Meters (7 Feet)

Age of Sexual Maturity: 2 Years

Coloration: Hii’gaan usually have a base color of sandy yellow, though the few inland members of the species carry recessive genes which give them a green color. Most individuals have ventral feathers that are tinted blue, and their tails are entirely blue. All adult members of the species have pink faces, and white flight feathers. The Hii’gaan’s scaled feet and back are grey in color.

Diet: Omnivore; their primary protein source is fish.

Gestation Period: 3 Months

Development: Hii’gaan are born live, but extremely underdeveloped. Males and females of the species have pouch-like growths just below their flight muscles, where they may carry one or two of their new born young. Most clutches are 2-3 chicks in size, with clutches of 4 sometimes surviving, and clutches any larger than this often causing the death of parents, usually from flight accidents, or the death of extra young. In properly sized clutches, parents will split care, with fathers usually carrying more young than the mothers, though there is an attempt to make the carrying load even.
Once the children grow too large to be carried by the parents, at about 2 months, they will be left in the homes of the Hii’gaan, often under the care of grandparents or community caretakers. During this time, the young Hii’gaan begin to be included in the close knit community of their people. They are taught to help in the building of houses, care of cultivated plants, and as they grow older, to help in the hunting and gathering forays that their parents are often involved in.
Though they reach sexual maturity in about 1 SFP, Hii’gaan tradition dictates that young members of the species do not mate until they reach an age of 5 SFPs, sometimes older. In the time between their initial growth and mating, young Hii’gaan devote their time to their community, tending the villages, and supplying food to the youngest and oldest members of their villages. After mating, they will usually bare one or two clutches before retiring from baring young. Most couples may take 2-3 SFPs between clutches. After their last clutch, the mated pair will spend more time in their villages, helping care for the young of other pairs, and less time finding food.
By the time they reach the twilight of their life, most Hii’gaan are honored members of their villages, and keepers of their species lore, no longer required to risk themselves in search of food.

Physical Description: The Hii’gaan are a bipedal species of large avians, that sport rounded faces and beaks. Their large wings have three fingers, one of which is opposable, located the wrist joint that is most prominent on their flight limbs. Their legs are long and thick in comparison to most species similar in design to them, and the Hii’gaan are known for their saurian-like stance when they stand at their full height. Hii’gaan legs are not only strong, but their feet are capable of fine movements that grants the species a secondary set of hands, and are invaluable for fishing. Their legs are also capable of tucking up into their bodies during flight.
Senses: Hii’gaan can see from the standard visible wavelengths into the UV wavelengths, and their eyesight is known to be attuned to details. Their sense of hearing, while not particularly sensitive, has evolved to allow the species to pinpoint the source of sounds around them. Their other senses are standard.

Emotions: Standard

Communication: Vocal

Anatomical Specialties: Hii’haan have hollow bones, that make them very light for their size, but also makes them somewhat fragile. In-flight accidents are a major threat for individuals of this species for this reason. They also sport organs in their chests that produce hydrogen which further lightens their weight.
Their digestive system is also noteworthy, as they have the ability to digest meat and most plant matter. Their intestines are home to a wide variety of bacteria that form a symbiotic relationship with the species and allows them to pull nutrients from an exceptionally wide range of foods. The organic waste of this species is considered dangerous for unvaccinated offworlders, however, because of their high content of bacteria.

Species Abilities: Because of their hydrogen-producing flight organs, this species can exhale pure hydrogen, which they have been known to use a combustible weapon in the past.

Social Organization: Most Hii’gaan live in communities that operate more like close families than villages. Decisions are made by all of the villagers regardless of age or gender, though elders are considered the highest officials in Hii’gaan society. Those decisions that cannot be agreed upon by the general population are offered up to the elders, and while their decisions are not the final word in village negotiations, they are often acted upon by the community.

Religion: The Hii’gaan religion, called Baa’lena by its followers, is centered around the worship of ancestral spirits. The older the spirit, the more powerful it is believed to be, and base of this ancestral tree is believed to be the ancestral mother and father of all the Hii’gaan people. The name of this pair is too sacred to the Hii’gaan for them to reveal them to Federation researchers, and, in fact, they do not often speak the names themselves, as they believe that use of a name can call the spirits out of the otherworld, and back into the physical world. Such spirits may do good or bad, by Hii’gaan beliefs, and thus calling them back into the physical world is a great risk… one that is not to be taken but in the greatest of desperation.

Culture: Hii’gaan culture is fairly simple. They center their lives and communities around gathering food and caring for their young. Oral stories play an important role in Hii’gaan life, and most of their traditions are passed down through the stories remembered and told by elders. Their religion is more of a superstitious system than an active system of worship.
Though primarily peaceful, this species can be extremely protective, and they are skilled warriors when they need to be. Many of their tactics are based on their hunting techniques, and they are skilled at creating fear in their enemies. In times of peace, they are an accepting species, known to be open to other cultures, but never willing to give up many of their own traditions.

Oh my god... These little guys are super cute! Do you have an explanation for why they have legs like those?

I can come up with a couple reasons... based on their IC info.
(a) They are mostly herbivores, but they often supplement their diet with fish. Longer legs allow them to hunt without submerging too much of their bodies.
(b) They are a weaker species on their planet, and much like humans have managed to thrive due to their ability to use tools. Their long legs give them an upright stance that makes use of their arms easier (in their second pic you can see that they have several fingers on the joint of their wings). :3

OC: I just thought it looked awesome. XD!

You're welcome!

My summer has been good so far. ^ ^ I'm keeping busy. Maybe a little too busy. Hahaha. How about you?

Sounds like mine too! I've been to California twice (one for Disneyland and the other for family). Had Summer session 1 of Figure Drawing class; it was totally draining cause it was extremely boring! D:>

What have you been up to?

aireona93 In reply to valdorien [2010-07-26 01:13:12 +0000 UTC]

Disneyland! YAY!

I took summer school figure drawing once and it was like, for five hours a day, four days a week. It was weird.

Anyway, I've just been studying for the MCAT, working on things around the house, getting ready for next year... the list goes on. Med school stuff is kinda eating my life. Oh well. XD

Right? I wish I could've had more time in CA Adventure but we can fit everything into one day. XP

Did you get bored to death? Heck... I was.... ;3;

Oh my god. THE BEST OF LUCK!!! You can do it no matter what you're made of (Corny line from Robots LOL)! Are you almost ready for school? (TWO MORE WEEKS: bites off nails!)

CA Adventure is fun (I LOVE Screamin), but Disneyland is just so classic. I always end up spending more time there... and it never seems to get old. XD

URG! I don't want to go back to school. My brain will die! I will die. Bleh. Are you ready to go back?

valdorien In reply to aireona93 [2010-08-08 05:40:12 +0000 UTC]

I WISH I COULD'VE GONE ON THAT! By the time we got to CA Adventure, they were starting to close attractions for World of Color <-which in itself was epic!

Absolutely not! ;3; I haven't even looked at my booklist... Oh the money that those books will suck out of me!

aireona93 In reply to valdorien [2010-08-09 01:16:30 +0000 UTC]

Huh- I have no idea what the World of Color is. It was pretty awesome though? It sounds artistic. You should definitely check out Screamin next time... if you like roller coasters. Hehehe.

Books... I am not even going to think about them until I get into Tucson. Lol. Evil little things. I never really use them, and yet, I always buy them. Silly me. XD

D'aaaw, you have a lovebird? I had some parakeets, but they weren't too friendly. My house sparrow was by far the most cuddly bird I have ever seen. Those things are SO affectionate when domesticated, it's insane!

0.0 A house sparrow! I <3 those! Never had one though... they are so cute. Birds in general are cute.

Anyway, I DO have a lovebird. She is really mean, but she is too cute to dislike. ^ ^ Hehehe.

Yeah. I agree about the tail. It should look more feathery as well... instead of furry... or however it looks. LOL. Thanks for the tip!

I think they're plenty cute. The idea of putting the legs where you did is quite original, especially since I can't see a whiff of anthroness in the picture.
