I did both ! for the hat, I sewed it trying to give it the good shape, and then painted it.

for the sword, it's going to be really hard to explain, because I cut the wood and metal pieces.
I sticked them, painted them, I did then from scratch( from slabs)

I admire your skills as a cosplayer. Im truly jealous at how amazing you are. What kind of fabric/paint did you use for the hat? I thought about sewing and painting, but I was afraid the paint would make it look bad.

Mhh, the paint looks quite bad when we look at it closely... but it's just fabric painting, and about the fabric, mine is in faux-fur
