The First thing that I have to say is that I love these kinds of art.
Okay, that to the side, the effects on this piece of art is phenomenal. The shading is all in place, and the wrinkles on his clothes and face are in the perfect place.
The staff he is holding has a lot of detail, the silver coming in at the perfect time for the true spiral effect. The owl is wonderful. From the thumbnail, it looks so real that it's not even believeable. The shading on the barn owl is very good, and the wings are so much better than what I could do. All the feathers look like they are in the right place, and its talons have the perfect effect.
The hair on the man are just the right hues of silver. There is no lack of detail in this picture, and I love the boots. A lot of people I know [including myself] have a lot of trouble drawing shoes, and they are some of those artists you barely notice, but when you do, they just pull you into their art, and you, sir, are one of those people.
You have done a wonderful job with this piece, and I applaud you. I hope you continue making art, because they will always be as beautiful as this and your other pieces of artwork.

I love what you've done with the owl! everyone just goes to town with the character, but you've integrated the design of the owl almost as a character itself. I almost want to know the owl's story, the tales of the equipment he wears. Would he talk? lol.
Great Work!

I always wonder how did the Greeks managed to use owl as a symbol of wisdom... it's probably one of the dumbest order of birds, if not the dumbest.

True, but a wizard can't really look dignified with a macaw on his shoulder.

But they can use crows. And ravens. And magpies. All sorts of truly intelligent birds. Plus you perciev owl as a dignifying animal because it was set as such so many centuries ago. It's purely arbitral things. For example Chinese consider magpies as symbol of good luck and brilliance, not a little flying thief.

True, but don't forget that this owl is a familiar, so he's smarter than the average owl. Β And adding awakening to that makes him even SMARTER! :3
In all seriousness, though, yeah it can be kind of frustrating about how people think owls are wise because the Athenians decided it to be so. Β Owls could represent so much more.

Like good rodent hunting, thus protection or dedication or stuff like that. But nah, let's make them symbol for wisdom. There could be at least some reasoning behind this, but it feels purely random. Or maybe you know why Athenians picked owl and not any other animal?

No clue whatsoever apart from its association with Athena.

Yeah, but it was associated with Athena as a symbol of wisdom, so it had be be related with wisdom in the first place to became her sacred animal.

Darnit, we got a chicken/egg scenario here! *facepalm*

And the best part? There are no records or reasoning left to explain why an owl was picked. Darn Greeks - too much wine, not enough knowledge passage.

Thank you! I actually know how wings are made, but, you know, sometimes the deadline is so close that you just keep working and working as fast as you can and risk that some mistakes get to the final image unnoticed. Thank you for pointing that out!
