You should give it a try! Depending on where you are I could refer you to a saddle seat barn for a lesson. I'll warn you though, most H/J/dressage riders have a harder time learning Saddle Seat because we ride in true flat saddles, with much different leg position, and we ride off-bit (being on-bit is a sign of bad training in SS).

Haha yeah I imagine it would be a very, very strange feeling. My barn is primarily a dressage barn but of course anyone is welcome, and we once had a lady who boarded her gorgeous saddlebred and anytime she was working with him I'd just have to stop and watch. I loved watching him float around the ring.
I live close to Columbus, though I ride in Pataskala. Know of any good places around central Ohio?

Do you happen to remember the name of the woman who boarded her Saddlebred at your barn? I wonder if I know her.
haha, I wish I were allowed to give lessons - my barn is just outside of Dublin. There are two barns in Powell that give lessons, I'd reccomend one of them. There is a small Saddlebred show up at Delaware the 5-6 of June, you should stop up and watch if you get a chance - I could probably get you hooked up with the instructor I'm thinking of there, and at the very least it could be interesting to watch. Here's a link to the show's website if you're interested - [link]

That's too bad!
Finals, meh: you should definitely come up - Sunday would be the better day for you from a photography standpoint, because the afternoon session and the Championship session are only separated by a short break, unlike a larger show where they are normally separated by about 3 hours, so less sitting around with nothing to do!

I think I'm certainly going to try for sunday, then. When does it start? And will you be riding in it?

Oh I'll be showing - Sunday is my busy day at this show, because it's got the halter classes, the AOTR, and the Championship.
It starts at noon with class #61 - I'll probably be in classes 61 and 62 - they're halter classes. I'm definitely planning on class 70, and depending on how my horse places in the qualifying class on Saturday/how much energy he has left, I may go in class 96 after the break as well, but my instinct right now is to skip that one. My horse is easy to spot seeing as how he is large and grey, and will most likely be misbehaving in a rather spectacular fashion - This is our first show this year, which I've learned to call his "screw-up show".
My Aunts will be showing as well, in class 73, 82 (5-gaited Amateur Championship- a must-see) and 83 (Roadster Pony) respectively.
They should have extra copies of the schedule in the show office, to help you keep track of what's up next. If you have any questions let me know - I usually know what classes are going to be good, if only because it's the same people as every year!

Yeah, let me know if you can make it, and start praying for the rain to stay away - that ring is horrible when it's soaked!
