My favourite character from the franchise! *v* The Legend of Korra hype made me feel all nostalgic for the first season for some reason, so I decided to whip this up ~Toph is from Avatar: The Last Airbender
will be a print at Anime North 2012!

I'd imagine the background to be darker and heavier as earth is darker and heavier. It's giving me a feeling of air bending maybe cause there's so much sky haha but still, great job overall!

Ah, Legend of Korra's looks to be fun! After being virtually a prisoner of her parents she values nothing more than freedom and breaking the rules so I guess her daughter rebelled by becoming the stick in the mud chief of the RCPD.
Thats perhaps the first time I have seen Toph displaying such an openly cheerful face while bending. I always remember her either very serious faced while bending or with a sort of "in your face" maliciously smirking mouth. Open smiles or laughter often involve her mocking someone. I do hope after the war was won she chilled out enough to have some moments like this. Very pleasant and uplifting image.
While I recognize you are doing Toph in your own style so I should probably hush up about some differences I find myself compelled to say it is hard for me see the Tophness in that nose type/style.

I didn't mean to.
That nose is fine in and of itself it is just in a different anime style to what I am used to seeing her in and it changed how I felt about the character. Doesn't necessarily make it βwrongβ unless you as the artist says it does. After all this could be an βinterpretationβ of the character into your style and maybe that is what you wanted for all I know. I was just saying how it made me feel. Wasn't trying to judge your skill or anything.
And I still enjoyed the piece overall. Again thank you for sharing it. Helps ease the burden of waiting for the next installment of LOK.
