Traditionally, unicorns had a horn (of course), a goat's beard, a lion's tail, and cloven hooves. They're a much odder animal than just a horse with a horn.

This guy isn't a unicorn, obviously, but I figure Luna might be a little more creative with her guards than the show necessarily lets on.
