Description Non commissioned art from 1979.

This was found hidden in hundreds of slides. I also had to reattach my Canon 9000 scanner, which has slide scanning capability...A rare feature these days.

It's probably the last of the pre-art school space paintings (1977-79). Done mostly for fun, with an eye for someday breaking into the market in sci-fi/fantasy book covers...

It clearly shows the influence of artist Chris Foss, another work like this;

Done at nearly the same time.

I added the planet below, from "Outward Bound", done the previous year, for some consistency, and some "punch"

Acrylic foreground, Oil background. On canvas board.

Very vivid, lovely details of all sorts.

Has Chris Foss been an inspiration here? It's a similar colour palette, which is just beautiful.

Wow- this looks amazing! The grainy backdrop actually gives the picture more realism! I also work in traditional media although I am very interested in trying digital someday. Keep up the good work ! πŸ‘

Oh, ok so you used canvas. I personally use illustration board hot press and re-inforced white poster board (whenever I'm low on money- since the illustration boards can get quite expensive) and I use low-tack clear frisket film whenever I use the airbrush.

Haha that's cool. It's a small world and about the school subject, I actually DID graduate witha technical certificate in Commercial Art & Graphic Design at Lindsey Hopkins in Miami Florida- but when I got out into the real world, employers wanted to see " work experience" and so nobody was willing to give me a real chance at trying out my career- but I needed to work, so I had to join the "work force", got married and here I am several years later surviving and paying bills.
I have sold my art at conventions on and off, I've gotten several pieces published in pro: Official Lucasfilm "Star Wars Insider" magazine, semi-pro and mostly amateur fanzines-i.e.(many covers)--- BUT I'm still waiting for my "BIG BREAK" someday. Maybe even open my own online gallery to sell prints. I've tried putting them up here on Deviant art, but really nothing concrete has happened- YET.
I still have faith in my talent and know that something, someday will give.Besides, I've always done art since about kindergarten when I first learned how to fingerpaint. Remember that?...and have been hooked ever since. I truly enjoy doing art- it's when I at my happiest and I will never stop.

This looks awesome. I did notice that the earth was a tiny bit out of focus or "grainy" as opposed to the astronauts who are very sharply clean cut onto the background. How did you do this?...it looks absolutely stunning and real. The blurry background effect actually makes the whole picture look more realistic! I also work with traditional media like yourself and find that your gallery is truly astonishing. On a side note, have you ever done UFO related pieces before?...this seems to be a hot topic nowadays and I would love to see your take on it. It would probably come out awesome! πŸ‘
