PE lightning round for Topic of "sleep".Her character, Rivek.
I hope this is ok darl, it seems I got carried away.
This is a more a speedpaint than a full painting as the idea of Lightning rounds is that we put in at least 30 minutes of effort. Um, yeah this one's a little more than 30 mins but Rivek is just so cool.

This piece is absolutely lovely. I really like the dark colours and delicate shading and colouring techniques. And all the effects, like fireflies and stuff. The pose is simply lovely, as so cute, hehe. You did a really great job with woe's character. Ahh, awsome picture!

The idea behind a lightning round is to put at least 30 minutes of effot into the drawing, I just got carried away and ended up putting a lot more time into it.
This took me about 4 hours from sketch to finish.

this is very detailed, looks like a scene from an animated movie. The pose of the body is very natural and credible

Ah, I'm so sorry I haven't gotten back to you about the commission but i am still working on it.
I've just had a few ongoing hardware problems with the machine I'm making them on that have me a little behind. I do have the vectored lineart to show you for one of the characters though, I'll send it out to you as soon as possible and you can let me know if you'd like me to continue with it.

Wow, kudos to you hon. That is a lot of extra effort for the round and I think you really went all out! The texture is amazing, I love the darkness and the bits of glowy light. Best of all, the pose is fantastic!

Lightning rounds seem to inspire me a lot more for some reason, I think it's the freedom to work on it for a limited time that just makes me experiment a little more and continue working on it like that... which kind of defeats the purpose i guess!
Still, working on this was great fun, looking forward to the next one!

Something about speedpainting is just so much more interesting, gives me the opportunity to play with lighting and texture that I tend to freak out over when working on a more 'finished' piece.

i can respect that. especially since i fail miserably at speedpainting still, and prefer to stick to much safer things like lineart ^__^

And I can respect that! Lineart is much harder than it looks and harder to produce than a speedpaint in my opinion, getting something to look right with only lines is a skill I'm still not confident with.
I only recently started speedpainting myself so i still have a long way to go before I 'loosen up' more with it, since I was told that was the point.

you're further along than me in that regard, so i havent gotten to "the point" yet either... but the big and difficult thing for me is to vary the colors in a good way... find the happy medium between a single-hue picture and a crayola rainbow... if i could do that, i'd be a very happy little artist

Mhh...good point, I noticed that pictures always look darker on my computer then on the computer of my kids.

Yay! I am so, SO glad you like this because I wasn't sure about how in character he really was, and I was also really worried about the wings and you stated he slept on his side in the signup... ah! so much freaking out on my part.
But I'm happy you're happy with it, he's such a great character, so much background and such a beautiful design. I had a great time painting him.
